VTEC Suddenly doesn't work! Help?

Alright. So I'm new to Honda's, so bear with me please. I have no idea why, but suddenly my VTEC stopped working. I don't know anything about anything when it comes to ECU's, so the more dumbed down details the better. I have no idea why it would stop working. I know that if you disconnect you'r neg terminal for more than half an hour, it resets your ecu. I was running a P28 that was chipped for my b16a. Could that be my problem? If so what do I do. I'm trying to learn everything I can about my new love, but its really hard when it seems like every day there's something else I'm running in to that I have no idea about.

check you oil level. I hear sometimes when your oil is low vtec will not engage. As far as anything else wait for someone else to post. Im not the smartest :p

First check your oil, then, If the solenoid or other component is failing, you should be throwing a CEL. Are you?

A day without vtec is a sad day indeed.

Yeah I'm throwing a CEL, but I have been since I bought the car. Its a swapped B16a1 and they said it was throwing the code because of the swap. And it worked fine before. I think it is my oil though. Problem is, I have no idea what type of oil to use for this engine. I tried to look it up but there were no definite answers. I haven't gotten a chance to get a chiltons yet, otherwise this wouldn't be a problem for me.

First off, go check what the code is, there are probably several..and second off it says on your cap, but any 5w or 10w -30 standard motor oil should be fine. Synthetic if you so choose.

Oil level, 5w30, also are you trying to engage vtec before the car is at operating temperature?

Use Mobil 1 full synthetic.
5w-30 for low milage
10w-30 for high milage

You cant check the dipstick and let us know the oil level? LoL

As far as the swap goes.... get the damn swap put in right with the wiring. My best advice.
They couldve just told you that to cover up a problem.

It might be the Vtec solenoid. Any B series will fit if you remove some gasket or plastic things on the plug. I hear D and H series fit too. i cant vouch because I havent checked myself

Be careful with the Vtec solenoid.. they break extremely easy under the three bolts... torque wrench is key

B16 vtec solenoid: 15810-P30-005
H22 vtec solenoid: 15810-P13-005
D16 vtec solenoid: 15810-P08-005

Part numbers are pretty damn close, i'd venture to say they are the same exact part.

How do I check which code?

And my oil is sitting at about a 1/3 on the dipstick. I need to replace my tube seals so I'm pretty sure thats why my oil is so low less than 1k after an oil change. That or because whoever had it before didn't run full synthetic though it so now its leaking through. But I haven't seen any evidence of that anywhere so I'm pretty sure its just my tube seals.

And where exactly is my VTEC solenoid? What does it do? Like I said, I'm new to Honda, so I have no idea about any of this stuff.
