Does it do it frequently now even after replacing the starter? I actually replaced mine after i bought mine because I was told it was bad and I have had a few times where it does the same thing, but usually that is just a dead spot in the starter. Let me know how often it does it, and if tapping the starter works every time for it to start when it does, and i can probably help you further.

It would probably have something to do with the starter then if that does it every time. A lot of times aftermarket starters have dead spot like that even on newer ones. Did it have some sort of warranty on it? I would also check the positive battery cable, could be broke or close to broke somewhere and just contacting good when you hit it, at least worth checking out because those don't cost more than 20-30 bucks even from Acura. Could be a issue with the electrical part of the ignition switch too that the starter thing is masking kind of, because sometimes those things don't contact very well and you have to play with the key a little, so it could be when you are trying to start it hitting it you are making that contact better. Just some things to consider. I would imagine has to be one of those three, in that order of likelihood from what you are saying. if you have to tap on it more then not the brushes are bad in the starter thats the problem 90% of the time. Who did you buy the starter from?

My dad's old work van would do the same shit. It was an autozone starter, sometimes it would start right up, then other days youd have to crawl under the van and tap the damn thing lol.

It may be the starter, or it may be the beginnings of the ignition switch going out. That is how mine acted when it went.

I had the same issue with an Advance Auto starter. After 3 of them in 4 months, I found my OEM in the garage and had it rebuilt. Haven't had issues since. Knock on wood.

Denco starters are rebuildable and most times its the contacts in the starter and they are stupid easy to rebuild, Oem is Denco for Hondas/acuras. But yes if you have to tap it to work its more then not the starter... If you tap it and it still wont work then ya it could be ignition. NAPA in my mind has the best rebuilds and thats all I use if I have to get a rebuilt starter
