Engine OBD question

I have a '93 RS with the 1.8, and i want to drop the powerplant out of 98-01 Type R integra (JDM), and when i emailed JDM company about pricing and what not, he mentioned an "OBD conversion" and talking to a mechanic about what else i would need? could somebody please tell me what hes talking about? ive never done a 4-Cyl engine swap, a JDM at that.. im guessing its the same deal as with an american muscle car motor swap situation. but the OBD thing threw me off, as well as what he's talking about talking to a mechanic.. thanks!

Im guessing that he was talking about a different conversion harness. Because the engines are different.

right, i understand an OBD conversion is a harness for the JDM motor to be "accepted" into the car, my main question is, which harness to get? i googled it, and i find OBD0, OBD1, OBD2, etc.. i dunno which one to get for my RS

That's an obd2 motor, you'll need an obd2 to obd1 converter harness, go to eBay and type that in, they're like $40, it'll also require the proper ecu, but the swap should come with that

Those harness's are for obd2 powered cars that want to convert to obd1, not the other way around. He needs to get an obd1 vtec engine harness and wire vtec into his harness. Like I said google it and youll find all the answers you need. You'll need an obd1 B series vtec distributor and ecu as well.

right, the guy told me for X amount, i get the engine, Trans, and ECU. he mentioned the only thing i have to get on my own is OBD thing, and "ask a mechanic for what else i might need" so, OBD2 to a OBD1 harness is what im going for? thanks alot guys

jhpusa.com Check them out. they've got OBD2-OBD1 "Jumper Harnesses". LIke mentioned earlier your gonna have to get an OBD1 distributor. Also, your B18c5 (proper engine name/code for ITR motor) you bought has V-tec but your 93 RS engine harness does not carry a connector for that, don't worry, the "Jumper Harness" that JHP USA sells have pig tail connectors to connect the ECU to V-tec solenoid. Side note: all vehicles manufactured after the year 1995-96 has to have an OBD2 connector plug. Any car you'll deal with before those years will be OBD1 or in my case for my 90 DA integra, OBD0. Other side note: I'm a NIssan Technician, I know it makes no sense lol

he doesn't need an obd2 to obd1 jumper harness...he needs to get an obd1 vtec harness and add the vtec wires to his stock harness. Do a search on yahoo for "putting b18c1 swap into DA integra" its the same process as putting a type r swap into a DA.

The harness everyone is talking about is so you can run an ECU that is Vtec and can be socketed and chipped. Since your car is OBD1 already you need this harness because the Vtec wires and 4 wire O2 sensor are already wired into the harness. It just makes your life easier.
I would recommend replacing all your motor mounts when you have the motor out. It's just easier to do. Stock mounts will be sufficient for your set up.

so i need for sure to get the OBD2 to OBD1 converter harness. sorry i know all the questions are annoying, i just want to get it right the first time, and not have to keep guessing everything.. i like to research everything lol and basically, the harness makes the engine "plug n' play" sorta say. ill be sure to scoop some new motor mounts too.

No. You don't need an OBD2 to OBD2 conversion harness. The motor has nothing to do with the ECU jumper harness. The harness is based on what OBD your car is and what OBD the ECU you want to run is.
You need the jumper that is OBD1 to OBD1. The reason you get this jumper is because it has the Vtec and O2 wires already pinned in the correct locations. All you have to do is run them into the engine bay and hook them up. Call Rywire and they will explain all of this to you if you are still unclear as to what we have told you. Their customer service is really good from my experience.
