Alright guys. Took the door panel off to put WD-40 on the locking mechanism. It's been stopping half-way when locking it by remote, and makes a machine gun sound.

But on to the point, Is this important at all? Do I need to work on getting the plastic piece over the hole on the left side? There's not enough of whatever that paste is in order to get it to stick right now.

Your car is like brand new, so clean
Thanks!

Think the loose plastic peace might have been causing the problem, as it was getting goo all over the mechanism when it fell. Cleaned it up, sprayed a bunch of WD-40 on it, then...

Had a light bulb moment:

Blow dryer allowed me to stretch the plastic as well as heat the goo. Stretched, adhered, then cooled to set it in place. Worked great:

Finished, and the door has locked every one of the 20 or so times I've tried it. Success! :D

Thanks! I've gotten used to the tint and sort of like it now. It only looks that silver from very strange angles. On sunny days it looks pretty standard.

Road Atlanta seems to be the best/most popular track in state. I found a website that lists all the tracks/ovals/drag strips in GA. http://www.racereview.com/georgia.htm

Alright. Finally time for an update.

Got a set of 205/50/15 Kumho Ecsta XS's put on the car yesterday and was planning on going to points 1 of the SCCA solo tomorrow, but got some bad news:

1. My right rear wheel bearing is out. Not being able to get this fixed before tomorrow means no autox for me this weekend. And I'm gonna miss points 2 because I'll be out of town for spring break. Oh well. Just 8 events for me this year.

2. Could not do rear alignment because there were 2 bolts that he couldn't break loose due to rust. They're the ones that bolt directly into the chassis and are located a foot or two toward the front of the car from the rear wheel (if that makes any sense). I'm disappointed, but that was a risk I decided to take, knowing this car lived in New York for the first 3-4 years of her life.

The good news:
1.My tire wear was great so the alignment issue isn't really a problem unless I do something to mess it up or want to lower my car one day. Or if I just wanted to go with a more aggressive alignment for autox. I'm gonna keep working on those bolts, hoping that one day I can break them free. Unfortunately with the way the design is, I was told that if I break off the head I'm screwed.

2. I had never gotten her up on a lift to fully check the chassis, but the thing is in GREAT shape. No rust, no dings, nothing. The tech even commented on how great of shape the chassis is, and that he'd bet it was adult driven and never pushed hard (also judging by the tire wear).

3. Found my new tire shop. For those of you who live in the ATL area you should definitely check out Gran Turismo East. It's off of I-85 exit 93 (Shallowford Road). They handle a lot of the exotics and track day/race cars in the area. Very friendly and helpful. They took me out to the garage and had me slide under the car so they could show me all the problem spots. The tech also explained to me how I could get to the bearing to replace it, knowing that I have access to the shop at my college and could save $ by doing it myself. Very reasonable prices too, and they're extremely honest. I had called to ask about getting new tires. They asked me what I was going to do with them, and proceeded to do some research and recommend a tire for me. When I asked about how his recommendation (the XS's I got put on the car) compared to a more expensive tire, he told me that for my application it really wasn't worth the extra $ to go with the other tire. Now THAT is an honest shop. I've heard other stories about them saving people money by talking them out of a higher-priced alternative. They also gave me free alignment on the front since they couldn't finish the job by aligning the back. What a great shop.

All in all the problems aren't too bad. I miss one points event and have a couple things to fix, but I'm glad I found out about them now before I autocrossed the car. Just hope I don't break the heads off the bolts.

I'll post pics at some point. Haven't had a chance to clean off the tires so they look like crap right now. Haha

Looks clean man. Sucks about the bearing. Mine started howling in the front like 6k miles ago and I have putting that off like crazy. I am jealous. I though mine was clean for 99. Mine has been in the family since new and has been garaged the majority of it's life and I think your paint is in better shape.

What are you doing for suspension? I got tokico struts(illuminas) and spring(mild drop) I might want to get rid off Shocks are amazing Auto/x'n but can still be dialed back enough to dampen smoother than the stock shocks for DDn. I'd sell the shocks by themselves though if you didn't want to lower it.

You ever go to the Varsity meets? I don't think Ive seen your car there before.

Thanks man. Yeah the bearing is a bummer, but I'm gonna get it fixed sometime this week.

Because of those rusted bolts I won't be able to lower it. I've got to break them loose first, which might never happen. Otherwise my alignment would be off big time once lowered. Plus I want to run in G stock for this first year. Talking to someone on here about getting the stock intake so I don't have to run in ST. Do you compete in the Atlanta AutoX's?

I've only been to one of the Varsity meets but might go back sometime. Being stock, my car isn't one to show. Didn't even take it last time I went. I showed up with Wreck Racing in the Lexus-powered V8 Miata.

Kuhmo XS update 1:

Cold Performance (well...cold for GA in March) - With the cold front coming in I haven't had a chance to check the tires in optimal conditions. That being said, at 40 degrees these tires have more grip under acceleration than my Bridgestone Potenza RE92's did at 75. Quite impressed by that considering they're a summer tire.

Rain performance - drove on them in heavy rain last night. At 50 degrees and raining, I STILL had more traction under acceleration that my old tires. Really impressed so far, and can't wait to test them out on a nice warm day.

More to come on these tires.

Kumho Ecsta XS update 2:

Finally got a chance to push these tires a bit on some back roads in some decent weather (65 degrees).

Off-the-line traction: it's incredible. They hook up much sooner than my old set, which really allows me to get the power down much quicker. There is absolutely no wheel spin going into second. Should help me save some time off the line in autox.

Daily driving: I'm very happy with their road manners. They're actually quite quiet for performance-oriented tires and don't drive too rough for what they are. Very pleased with their road manner.

Through the twisties: So far I haven't been able to find their limits, and don't know if I ever can safely on the road. Through one of my favorite corners I was able to not only go 10 mph faster, but I was also able to continue accelerating at the same time. While the old tires were losing grip at a lesser speed (while maintaining a constant speed through the corner), I was able to go faster and continue putting the power down without them even starting to squeal. Very impressive. Additionally I was able to test their ability in correcting the car's line. Again, going faster than I ever was able to on my old set, I wanted the car to tuck more into the corner by swinging the rear a bit. I lightly tapped the breaks and the car dug in on the front and very progressively slid a small amount in the rear to correct the line. Lots of fun, and very easy to drive on and control. Very impressed so far.

More updates to come once I get a chance to test these in autox in 3 weeks. Thanks for reading.
