How to start tracking?

I'm interested in tracking my car. Although its stock right now, I want to get some info first. I've been searching for places around NorCal and it seems like the prices are pretty expensive. Its ~$200 a day? What else do I need to track my car?

I suggest that you track your car when it's bone stock on your first. You'll learn how to set up your car afterwards. Just make sure you change out your brake pads for more durable ones for track use. OEM pads will burn up pretty quickly.

it depends on the track but most of them are about 200. THunder Hill is 120 a day and i will be going there in April.

Speed Ventures is a good racing organization to start with they are really good with beginners

for a track day you typically need the following:
tools
helmet
tools
case of water
more water
even more water
more tools

i bring extra rotors
and misc parts that i may break.

Yeah, for my first time, I will stay stock. I also found out that Infineon Raceway has drag races every so often and its about ~$40 each day. Have any of you participated in that?

thats quite expensive as i pay $15 to go to a strip, $40 sounds like its a CMI event. Where are you located?

make sure everything is up to par on your car. all the suspension components are good to go and not blown, your car is aligned, your oil is changed and all the fluids are topped off.

just go get a check up or do it yourself. really only way to get started in track events is to do them, so sign up! lol

So I read around speedventures and it seems like its in Southern California? Also, I can't find any days for Thunderhill that are $120. Which one are you going to?

i go to Northern California Racing Club and Speed Ventures. But, I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recomend doing a speed ventures track day first. Its a farther drive, but Rod Susman at Speed Ventures is a highly qualified instructor, and he doesnt sugar coat anything. He makes sure you learn from your mistakes etc. I can not vouch for NCRC as i havent tracked with them but i have a general idea of how to drive Thunder Hill from teching with a Spec Miata team and attending several events and talking to people who know the track, so i feel that wil help augment my knowledge in the event that instruction is absolutly rubbish. Im sure all the California track whores will agree with me 100% that Speed Ventures is the place to start.

So I'll probably try autox before I track. I see that they have one in Oakland, which is right near me. Any tips for that?
