Glad to hear you're not street racing anymore.

It depends on what you truly want to do. You should try a track day and see how you like it. Track tires do cost a bit of money, but you don't need to (and shouldn't) start out on them. Try starting on a UHP class tire; I suggest a set of Yokohama S.Drives. They'll help you learn while still being forgiving and they won't mask your problems. And get some decent brakes.

If you're interested in drag racing more, then pursue that. And a properly tuned/built motor can be very reliable.

I'm considering getting into either track racing or autocross (should be going to first autocross tomorrow), and was wondering about your statement on tires. What do you mean by "forgiving" tires, and how can tires "mask" your problems? Thanks. I hate being such a noob. :roll:

tires will show you your faults. Forgiving tires will tell you before they brake loose. Azenis will sometimes tell you when they want to brake lose. you want a tire that will show you where you are going wrong and where you are going right.

Laguna Seca
and Norcal UFO does alot of Auto X in marina. They are a great group and i started with them when i went to school at CSUMB.

However, i do not suggest going to Laguna Seca as a track to learn on, Laguna Seca is a difficult track to learn and they offer no instruction on track days, i suggest Button Willow, Willow Springs, or Thunder Hill to be your first track day. Laguna Seca and Infinion are really advanced tracks.

theres a 1 mile long track right near my house but ive never been to it. dont have a helmet and nees to get new tires. my bald wanli s1088 barely survive normal driving, right now theyre pretty much slicks

yea i need to get a better suspension so my car can survive the turns lol i want to track so bad but i dont make enough money for that.
