Junkyard turbo build???

Well I'd like to turbo my stock 5 speed LS that has 83k miles. What kind of budget turbo setups are out there? I was thinking a DSM turbo I could get off a car would maybe be a good option? I was planning to get some Ebay piping and intercooler, DSM injectors, bov, and then tuning it. I would like around 250whp if possible.

I searched alittle more and found ONE thread, it suggested a 16g EVO3 turbo? Would this be a good choice? Also I know where I can find a Grand National T3/T4 turbo...

Red Flag #1. The 14b is a horrible turbo choice for an Integra. The T25 from 95+ DSMs can't handle 250whp.

Red Flag #2. Your biggest issue is going to be a manifold that works/lasts. You'll most likely have to look at a tubular manifold such as OBX off eBay. These are junk and crack over time.

Red Flag #3. DSM Injectors will be pushing it for your power goal. You'll be pushing their limits.

Red Flag #4. Your going to want a quality intercooler as they play a huge part in how much power your going to make. What BOV are you planning on getting?

Red Flag #5. You made no mention of upgrading your exhaust. You're going to need a minimum of 2.5" and even that might be a little restrictive.

Red Flag #6. You might as well kiss your clutch goodbye.

Red Flag #7. No mention of upgrading pistons and rods. They are the weakest points of a B18B1 for boost. Your going to be looking around $750 for good forged components.

Your build totally does not sound worth it, simply just trying to cut corners and save money. The tune will be the major factor on this one....and I mean MAJOR. For the love of god tune it properly...do not save money here and do a hack job with an SAFC.

Just buy a turbo kit from GodSpeed on eBay. Just make sure to text the wastegate that it's accurate

I have made junk yard turbo kits and have had less problems with them then more expensive setups. One is because I ran less boost, two, oem components are much better quality then even the mid grade after market components. Unless your buying top brand items like kkk, turbonetics, full race, etc, then your better off with oem parts.

If your looking for a cheap manifold I would try and find a cast log manifold, they can be had for cheaper and you will have less problems with them. As for an intercooler, I've turbo'd an old golf and just used 1 stock 300zx turbo intercooler and had very good results keeping a cool charge. As for injectors, if you are only planning on running maybe 6lbs or so your not going to push much over 200hp so I wouldn't see you maxing out dsm injectors if that's what you plan on using.

Your not going to leave yourself much if any room for improvement building a kit this way, but you can gain a decent amount of reliable horsepower for cheap and will smash on most n/a cars. I do agree that you should make sure you spend some decent money on a tune. Get it built and take it to a reputable shop, have them tune it and chip your ecu, it shouldn't cost but a couple hundred bucks for that.

Well after hours of reading last night I lined up a Holset HY35 turbo I'm picking up Tuesday. I need to find a manifold that will work with this turbo and hopefully let me keep P/S and A/C. Past that the rest of the build will be a cake walk. I would LIKE to run a 44mm WG with the setup because I read of boost creep with such a big turbo and low boost. But I might have to run a 38mm and hope for the best. BOV isn't a concern for me, probably will go with a Tial. I had an HKS SSQ on my MR2 but didn't like how girly it sounded.

Maybe I misunderstood, I thought DSM injectors went up to 550s. Anyways, I will obviously get slightly bigger than needed injectors. Will the stock pump be fine or will I need to upgrade it?

It sounds like your buying a bunch of expensive parts, so why bother trying to put together a budget build.

After more searching I think I decided to go with an InlinePro SS cast manifold for the HY35. I'm just hoping I can keep A/C, P/S, and my stock radiator and fan.
