I live in San Antonio, Tx. I have a 94 integra ls and it has an air bag (duh) but I want to put a quick release steering wheel on but is removing the stock wheel and air bag illegal? Its my daily driver and I do have to worry about sate inspections but I dont see anywhere on the texas state inspection requirements about the air bag? Sooooo is it illegal?

ive been pulled over by police and been thru smog checks with no airbag. they havnt said anything.
and cali is strict with car modification.

i guess it just depends where you live.

If the car was equipted with an airbag- you will fail inspection for not having it.

You can always swap your stock wheel back in for state inspection.

I don't worry about passing inspection :) But anyways... if its a problem in TX which i DOUBT it is just swap wheels it takes like 30mins MAX but i'm sure your safe to run a aftermarket wheel.

That would be the best way to get around it.

Thing is, when you disconnect the stock airbag, the SRS light will come on and stay on. Thats an automatic failure at an inspection. This will also disable the passenger side airbag. Keeping your OEM wheel around for re-inspection (which happens annually here in VA) will be the only way to work around the issue, unless you have a lax inspector.

You can always take the bulb out for the SRS light as well :)
Here in PA we also have yearly inspections, and it's more than just visual, they plug in the little OBD reader and it'll scan for any codes etc etc and fail you if not. It's getting a lot harder to get around it here, even with lax shops..
