I just bought new Kicker KS600 speakers and I can't figure out why I have water behind my speakers? it's been raining here and I was told water should never be allowed behind my door panels/ speakers. I bought my 95 coupe with alpine type s speakers already installed all around but when I took my ugly ass tan door panels off and switched to a black door panel I decided to change out the speakers as well, as the previous owner did nothing but jerry rig everything and just fucked the car to hell. when I pulled the old speakers out they were COMPLETELY rusted on the back side and some slight rusting on the mountig brackets. There is absolutely nothing around, behind, or guarding the speakers and when I installed mine there was only a plastic ring that clips on the the front of the speaker and then the screws hold it in directly to the metal on the door. Isn't there supposed to be something around the speaker guarding it or something? Or some kind of guard in case water ever gets back there? I just dont see how it is ok for water to get around my speakers? WTF am i missing??

Uhm, dont you have another thread on this?

Water gets into the doors via where the window comes out of the door, its that simple. The seal can be good, but it will never lock out all of the water. There are drain holes on the inside of the doors to allow it to drip out.

You can install a foam bowl type surround that the speaker essentially "sits" in to protect it some, but moisture will still be present. Tossing a couple of those silica packets into the surround pocket can help to absorb some the moisture though.

Take your interior door panel off, roll the window up, and spray it with water. You will be able to see some water run down and into the inside of the door.

yeah my previous thread was asking why I would have water behind my doors. This one i'm asking if there is supposed to be some kind of speaker guard to help keep water away. I was told there should be like a "basket" with foam and something else on it that the speakers sit in but i've never seen that

Yes, if you google "speaker baffles," thats what they are. You can probably get them at an audio store or off a audio website (parts express,crutchfield)

That's what I told him in his other thread. People keep insisting that the doors were designed to fill up with water and leak out through drain holes in the bottom, but mine never have had water in them. The drain holes are a fail-safe, and my car and others that I have seen have rubber plugs in those drain holes.

I have aftermarket speakers with the OEM plastic baffles removed (be necessity since no quality aftermarket speaker will fit that basket) and I don't have any rust or indication of more than trace amounts of moisture inside the doors.
