alright so my b18A1 in my 93 teg got a spun rod bearing so my mechanic was looking for engines and found me a B20Z and a B18A1 but i wasnt sure which i should go for the B20 would cost me 100 to 200$ more (both non vtech obviously) and im not really tryna soup my teg up tryna keep it pretty stock but wasnt sure if for only 100 to 200 more if i should just go ahead and drop the b20 in it or is it really not even that much different from the B18A1?? and if i did get the B20 would it be ok to keep my B18A1 tranny or am i gonna have to get complete swap cause people telling me the gears would be to long if i kept my B18 tranny and would work the tranny to hard? dont seem right to me but iunno... sorry for all the questions lol and thanks in advance

b20. your transmission will bolt right up. but while it's apart you should inspect it, maybe a tranny rebuild, new clutch too :thumbs up

He said he is trying to keep it pretty stock. Reading is always helpful.

I would say spring for the b20. A little extra torque never hurt anyone for that price. If you were looking for more horses and actually building a motor, I would have just said drop in a b18c, but that's not the case.

If you are planning on keeping the car stock as you have stated in your post, I would go with the B20 motor to get the extra torque. Really I would try to see how many miles are on each motor and see if there are any maintanence records. The most important thing would be to get the most reliable engine because they are both similiar engines when it comes to HP and Torque just the B20 will have more low end torque and if you ever plan on doing something with the car in the long run, you would have more displacement being a 2.0

"mirrorimg" yes mostly stock NOWWWW.....If you think for even the slightest moment that you may want to have more power in the future, you could save a lot of money by doing it right the first time

"alvi84" This is very true if you know for a fact you want stock B20 for the TQ

If u r in california rebuilt b18a1. I have a b20b with the LS tranny and i'm not too thrilled with it performance wise. I've read that the b16 tranny makes it quicker. I have heard the b20z is a better engine of these 3 engines.

If you want more torque go with the b20. They are great engines, and if you like the way its geared i think your tranny would b fine. Personally the b18 is better for the tegra. Slightly better gas mileage and pulls just as hard. I suggest the b18.

upgrade to better motor mounts, and you may want to consider getting a better radiator. I have a friend that done a b20 swap in his and he got a megan racing radiator and got new vaccum lines when he done the swap and it pulls like a beast! You should b fine, u may want to consider getting an upraded clutch that can handle the extra torque but other than that its a straight up swap!

An OEM clutch will be fine. The b20 isn't going to make more than an OEM clutch disk can handle, especially if he replaces his old worn clutch with a new unit.

The only reason i say upgrade the clutch and flywheel is because i have a friend that done a b20 swap and it pulled and shifted so much smoother with a stage 1 clutch and lightweight flywheel. A new oem clutch will b fine, i was just sayin.

You do realize that the OEM clutch is an Exedy disk. Basically the "stage 1" clutch disk...

Yes they do, however im not a fan of exedy so its ok. Straight up act or clutchmasters with a fidanza flywheel.
Got a clutchmaster fx200 and a flywheel on the way for my da! But anyway at least get new oem parts when you do a swap regardless what company they are affiliated with. No since in having used parts when doing a motor swap like that.
