(Another) Speaker Connector thread (with pics)

Hi,

I didn't want to hijack another thread but I'm not sure if I should post this. Anyway, I'm posting it anyway in hopes you guys can help me.

So I have acquired a pair of sony 6.5 speakers. My stock speakers are sort of broken. The sound is really tiny. I'm stuck at the connector part. I'm not sure whether to cut the blue-ish green and yellow wires and just connect them directly to the new speakers. So here are some pics and please give me some advice. Also, I don't think I'll ever re-install stock speakers.

Strategy 1
Cut the connector off and then just connect the wires directly to the speakers?

or

Strategy 2
Get another wire to connect to the speakers and to the existing wire in the car?

ps. Detaching the car battery would not screw up my viper alarm right? I have a backup battery too.

No, this is not the worst of my problems :)

But, I've owned this car for 3 weeks and it's my first car and I've no car knowledge. I don't mind being ridiculed. I will ask the questions when I cannot understand what I read in my searches. I hope I can learn from all of you. So far, the information has been very helpful. :)

Are these the taps you are talking about?

Yep, these are the way to go.
But a suggestion for when you cut off the plug....leave enough wire coming off the back of the plug so you can reattatch it to the oem wires, so when the day comes that you sell/trade in the car you can put the oem speakers back in, plug them back in with the origional plug nice and easy, and then you can keep your aftermarket speakers. A car with a fully functioning stereo is easier to sell/has higher resale value. A little plannig ahead now will save you time and money in the future.

So I chickened out with those butt connectors. Instead I went to bestbuy this morning to get a Metra Harness. I think that's what they are called. I'm very happy with it. No need to cut cables, crimp, etc. No need to figure out which is positive or negative. Just plug and play. In all it took me about 15 mins to change both speakers. Thank you all for your help. Couldn't have done it without you. Here are some pics.

See, i would like to do this.... but the GSR models have a different wire connector to the speakers... because the tweeters are installed to them as well.... so there are 4 wires going to the front speaker wire connectors...

I wonder if that same connector would work.....sigh....

good choice

i am glad you didnt cut up the wire in your door cause it would have made it more difficult to put the car back to stock if you ever had to sell it
also it makes the install so much easier and cleaner
