How to Polish a Muffler/exhaust

if its S/S just get a buffing wheel (soft cloth),polishing compound bar and a grinder. mount buffing wheel to big grinder while it spins rub the bar onto the wheel start polishing light ,add pressure to get scratches out,keep adding compound to wheel every so often as seen needed after doing the whole thing i wash it out with a polyester rag with reg dish soap (warm water) .it had weld marks and scratches , but it looked like new when finish. trust me i work with S/S for living

I tried to polish my Type-S muffler, but I ran into some bumps and wondered what is the easiest way to take them out. 800 grit is too weak and before I try 200 or 400, I wanted to ask if there is an easier way. Here is a picture of it:

i have the same thing on my oem ls axle back. but not as much as that.
best thing to do is to grind them off or just live with it.

x2, same with the ek. I just polished with metal polish and left as is. It looks better than it did before right?

How would I grind it off? Coy, did you end up grinding it off from your LS?

Jay, can I see a picture of your axleback with those dots on there? Did you just wet sand all the black parts out? They are a hassle because I have to work around the bumps and my sandpaper keeps ripping.

Sure bro. I couldn't find any closer pics of the muffler. Although the heat bubbles weren't too bad for mine.

you could use a dremel with a grinding wheel.
i left the bumps there and used the wire wheel to clean up around the bumps and just wetsanded as best i could around it to not make it look too bad.

x2 No polishing ball. I we sanded + used metal polish. I found a dremel hiding in my snap on tool box, I got excited xD.

I have the 1st one you linked :lol:. I would use an air compressor + wire wheel. That's what I used for my rims. But that might be a little overkill. I think you would be set cleaning the heat bubbles with either or of the dremels + many other projects .
