I am thinking about turbocharging my gsr I have been doing researching forced induction for about a year now and the only thing im having trouble with is picking a turbo so if anyone could give me some advice i would appreciate it alot so here is the set up and my goals..

SET-UP
b18c1
srp pistons
eagle rods
acl bearing
arp haed studs and rod bolts
skunk2 valve springs and retaniers
itr cams
skunk2 intake manifold
top mount turbo manifold (not sure which one yet)
600cc injectors
p28ecu w/ crome pro
ebay intercooler and pipes
bov(havent chosen one yet)
3"turbo back exhaust

I am thinking about a holset hy35 turbo because i can get it for free my buddy has a diesal doge and upgraded his turbo and will give me his now my goal is 250-300 hp but it is a daily driver so i would like to be fully spooled at 3500 to 4000 will the hy35 do this I have searched and found alot on the hx35 but not much on the hy35 so please tell me what you think if this a good set up thanks

so it spools faster then a 50 trim t3/t4 thats but do you know if it will fall of at rpms? or if it will get me to my power goals?

if the turbo makes 350+ on a stock cummings, i'd imagine it'll be efficient enough for your goals.

but, i have no idea what it'll fall off at.

thats true i never looked at it that way but the diesal revs to like 3k gsr is 8k but i dont think it will be a problem but i was hoping someone with this turbo on a gsr would chime in and say if theres does or does not fall off but thanks for the replay like i said ive been doing ALOT of reading and searching and i cant find any gsr with hy35

why are you looking for a deisel turbo? The exhaust is probably massive compared the the compressor housing which on a 1.8 will probably make for much slower spool up times. The exhaust flow on a deisel is much greater than a 1.8 inline 4. I've never messed with deisel turbo's so I'm just going off the holset turbo's I've seen on cummins motors. I'm sure the turbo is readily available but if you have the money and your searching for 250-300hp why not just pick up a garrett gt28 or gt30?

there are alot of people useing holsets on there tegs they are just usally the bigger hx35 the turbo is free and ive spent soooo much money on this so far it would be nice not to have to buy a gt turbo as they are quite expensive it will get me where i want to be power wise i was just wondering on the spool but they link up there says they hy spools faster then a t3/t4 50 trim which is what i was looking at before he gave me this turbo..so thanks for the help but i think i have my answer i will be useing this one if it dont give me what i want then i will change it and its free so im not wasting my money..

Ha! Who would have guessed someone else would post a DSM reference on a Honda site

The main concern on using this on small displacement engines is staying away from the surge line on the compressor maps at lower flow rates. For the complete thread and all thoughts, here is the original: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/turbo-system-tech/145691-holset-turbos.html

aww yes i did read about the surge problem but i saw a bunch of people running 10lbs and thats about what i need for 300hp however maybe i will go with 12 to 14lbs just to be safe i just dont want to get to the point i need to sleeve the block which from what i read is about 450whp so i think 12 to 14 should be just fine.. MAN I CANT WAIT TO BOOST!
