Street to Track

So I finally decided to switch from Street Racing to Track Racing after a Few Months of Getting My License (I've actually planned to stop Street Racing pretty soon, & the GF wanted me too.) So Now I Kind of Have this Dillema, I want to switch over to actual Grip racing because it's more fun, but I want to stay in the Drag racing game due to the fact I have experience with it. So I need some of you're guys expertise. Should I continue Drag Racing or should I switch over to Grip Racing. I'm also wondering which cost more because I heard for Grip racing tires are expensive, and I heard in Drag you're engine can blow alot easier.


PS: Only reason I Street Raced in the first place was due to alot of People at
school wanted to race me and Yea.

Glad to hear you're not street racing anymore.

It depends on what you truly want to do. You should try a track day and see how you like it. Track tires do cost a bit of money, but you don't need to (and shouldn't) start out on them. Try starting on a UHP class tire; I suggest a set of Yokohama S.Drives. They'll help you learn while still being forgiving and they won't mask your problems. And get some decent brakes.

If you're interested in drag racing more, then pursue that. And a properly tuned/built motor can be very reliable.

i cant see why you couldnt do both. But personally i wouldnt have a 300WHP turbo motor for circuit if it was my frist time. I would go with a good brake set up with DBA rotors, Stainless Steel Lines, Racing brake fluid ( i use elf), Carbotech or Hawk HP+ pads. For tires i would get the S drives, but i personally like the Falken RT-615K tires :thumbs up. i would probably get a good camber kit and coilovers if you were to do circuit.

i actually did and i thought the same thing but my goal was a 10.5 second car and i was like thats like atleast 400 hp and said it was a bad idea, btw if i go to the track i dont need anything special like some kind of certificate or watever to be able to race , & on track day wat do you guys do, do you guys just race around the track for lap times or like actually race.?

you dont need a cirtificate, i dont even think you need a license. But what we do there is its bracketed into different classes. white for speed ventures is the novice group. This is where you will learn the line etc. there will be open sessions later in the day and t hey have places where you can pass with a point by. no open passing until you are in the expert group. lots of them have places where you can pass but they are restricted other groups are open passing but require point bys. the nor cal one me and nick are going to at htunder hill (located in the nor cal thread) has a time attack thing with it.

okay i see, and what if your familiar with the line already, then what?

each track has a different line and the road will pull differently. i suggest doing the novice bracket each time you go to a new track. you can move up in brackets when you feel more comfortable. with Northern California Racing Club you can either test out of a bracket or meet some requirements which they set for each bracket.

I'd have him stay away from the RT-615 he won't get anything out of it except that it will mask his problems.

You don't need anywhere close to 400 hp. Go watch my track video and you will understand what bolt-ons and some S.Drives can do. And trust me, I was pretty sloppy in that video.

At and HPDE (high performance driving event) you don't actually race other people. It's essentially practice time where you work on techniques and try to improve your lap times.

If you want to run Wheel-to-wheel, you'll need to run HPDE's for a while and then get your W2W license with an organization like NASA or SCCA.

So if go to the track i cant just race my friend 1-on-1 or there no passing at all, because i dont feel like racing against 5 or 6 other ppl

its point by. so no you can not race 1 on 1, there are usually 150 people. You can grid last and say you want space so you can have a "private battle" its point by passing so no open passing.

A drag car setup and a track car setup are totally different. You can do both for fun, but there's no way to set up for both.

Once you run on a track or even an autocross, you'll forget all about drag "racing"...

As long as you have a safe car to run on track, dont worry so much about power/setup. Your driving will be the #1 biggest thing. Just get out there and do it
