Hey guys... i just bought this 1997 GSR... and the wheels are pretty nasty looking... i tried to clean them up using a rough scrubber and degreaser... but it didnt hardly do anything but get the brake dust off... any ideas on a way to fix these babies up? Thanks~

Well 1st off... here is the car i just got....(hood was popped-it does sit flush)

And here is what all the wheels look like... real dark between the spokes... and scratched to hell... the darkness is the big issue... i just want them to be bright and silver again.... and look decently nice....

**UPDATE** (8/2/10) Here is the wheel after refinishing it...

Let me know what you think!

Any advice on what sandpaper to use... and where amd what paint to get? and where to get the clear coat? Ive never refinished a set of wheels before...

Thanks for the reply~

I enjoy Integras.
Nice write up! :thumbs up
I just noticed it lol.

Yeah, I recommend just redo-ing them. Plus, then you get to pick a color!

if you dont wanna paint them just use some wheel acid it will clean tem up really good, but do a 10:1 mix with water or you may in trobble

Sweet... can i get wheel acid at local parts store?

Another question.... If i give the wheels all a good wet sand... i should use a very fine grit? like 2000grit? Or should i start a bit more aggressive than that like 600 grit?

And if i really dont want to paint them... and just want them to be silver and shiny.... can i just sand them... wipe them down... then clearcoat?

Get some wheel cleaner and spray it down, then clean it off after about 30 seconds. You have quite a bit of brake dust build up, and depending on how long its been there, it may have eaten into the clear coat. Looks like you scratched the face of the wheel to hell while you were scrubbing it.

Something like Meguiars wheel brightener (Review of this product)

dude kick it off with some wet sanding with 320 paper. some people will tell you that you can get away with scuffing the paint but i like to sand the clear/base coat off down to the factory primer. sand the hell outta that, clean it with a good solvent. go and buy some tack cloth, i found some at an auto parts store where you can also find some paint, i would recommend dupli-color wheel paint, VHT products, and SEM but the last one is kinda spendy. tack cloth will get all the dust and debris off of your wheel prior to paint. prime them, using a filler primer works nicely. wet sand them again with like 600, clean and dust again. when painting go with light coats!!!!!!! start with the little spots first ie. between spokes, near lip, lug holes. wait like 10 minutes between coats and lay down a nice final coat a little thicker than the rest. clear coat. this isn't the only way or the best way to go about it, but it's cheap and works nice. good luck

wheel acid will help to get all that brake dust off, but you don't have to cut it with water, just don't leave it on for more than a minute. and if you want to really get into it you might want to look in touching up that curb rash with a grinder.
