tips on a more quiet exhaust?

okay, my integra has a very loud exhaust. lol it has headers, and after that its straight piped back to the exhaust. at some levels, it sounds good, but around 3000rpm and when v-tec engages, it gets really unruly. i was thinking about putting a catalytic converter back on it, do you guys think that would quiet it down enough without creating breathing issues?

First off, you only have one header.

You can put a cat back on it, that will help. The major controlling force in the tone of the exhaust is the actual muffler, so the biggest change will come from changing the muffler.

I am assuming you having it straight piped is giving it more issues than benefits

edit: and i dont only mean with noise

i knew I only had one header.. just typed a bit too fast i guess. i was thinking i might need to change the muffler, but i figured if i put a cat back on it, it would be cheaper. im a little low on funds right now. :/

not to mention, i wouldnt be polluting anymore.

throw a resognator on it any muffler shop can do it for about 50 bucks and that will quiet it down some

Keep It Clean
Put a resonater on it. You could find them at the junk yard off of a wrecked, stripped Integra

your problem is its straight piped lol. Straight piping = only for drag cars, not dailys. Im not trying to sound like an ass either when i say this. Get yourself a nice exhaust.

yea you wanna change it, if its strait piped and not done rite and you dont have enough back pressure on ur cylinder your gonna warp ur valves and have to get em shimmed

mines straight pipe with a skunk2 turbo muffler and i love the way it sounds but it still is a little loud. get a res and a new muffler and i think you will be happy unless you have the money the go get an hks, greddy, or skunk2 full exhaust, but get ready to spend some money on those.

I feel the one good thing I know I do with cars at least is getting good exhaust setups that sound nice. I always keep a cat on it, sometimes a high flow or JDM ITR one, and a catback from a good company that makes ones to sound nice, like Greddy SP, Apex'i WS, ones like that which have a oval shaped muffler, those quiet them down a lot and resonators of course.

You can get a cat and a resonator to quiet the noise level down.

P.S. You have only one header.
