Which tranny is better a b16 tranny or a gsr tranny? Because my friend wants to trade the gsr for my b16

depends on how you like to drive and your set up... and how low your willing to let your mpg go

neither should grind.... unless you dont know how to drive... and the b16 tranny will accelerate faster but youll also have a shorter final drive so youll get less mpg. and the gsr is a little taller

agreed..if u want acceleration and dont mind the lost in MPG (not that much) i say go b16...if this is ru daily and what not..do the gsr trans

I have a b16 trans and I'd prefer a GSR just because I got so much better mileage in my other Honda's that had LS and GSR transmissions. It's up to you though.

In addition to the answers about MPG, go with a GSR tranny if you're boosting, a B16 tranny if you're NA.

I have a B16 tranny and hate that shit on the freeway!!!!!!!!!! 5k rpms the whole time equals 20mpg. Hondas should be getting better lol.

If i had a GSR tranny, i'd leave it GSR, or if you're looking to buy a tranny, just buy GSR, but since I already came with the B16 tranny, i'm gonna just leave it, and raise redline after building the motor to get a longer gear.

i have a b16 tranny on my gsr and i love the acceleration. gsr tranny is slightly better on gas and better for a boost set up.

There is never any case where an LS trans would be preferred over a shorter geared trans. Not turbo, not nothing. This keeps getting repeated again and again but it has no basis in reality. If you're setting a land speed record, put the LS 5th in your VTEC trans.

There is something to be said about choosing the gearing for your application, but that is a far cry from going with a long geared LS trans with the huge gap between each gear ratio.

To answer the OP's question, the difference in acceleration or MPG between the GSR and B16 is nothing compared to the annoyance of running in 5th gear, 70 MPH at 3800 RPM. With an aftermarket exhaust I imagine it would be unbearable. I have a Type R trans in my GSR and the gearing is the same as the B16. I knew what I was getting into. I don't take the freeway to get to work. When I graduate from my Graphic Design program, I'm going to put in an LS 5th.
