I need to get body work done asap.
I have rust on both my front fenders, and both my rear quarters.
It's surface rust that needs to be stopped now!

I got acouple quotes, ranging from $700-$1200

To sand, prime, paint about 5 spots..
Should I attempt it myself?
or should I not be cheap and spend the money on getting it done by a 'professional'

Suggestions, help, anything !

thanks

If you want pictures, I can snap a few so you can make a better judge

sand it, id start with 800 just to be safe. It's not much rust.
add bondo
sand the bondo down to level.finish up with 1000 - 2000 wet.
prime it
spray it
clear it
the color wont match exactly because you would be spraying brand new oem white compared to the color on your car which has been hit by the sun, water, and endless time of being outside. It shouldn't be hard to do. good luck.

Do it yourself.

Rust is bubbling the paint. Sand it with 300 grit untill you hit bare metal. Sand hard don't wet sand it. Moisture is the a bad friend to bare metal.

Sand 3 inches around the rust, just to make sure there isn't any hiding in the paint around the problem area.

Primer it asap, then use glazing puddy to fill it any low spots, you could use a small block sander for the flat surfaces.
Work with the surface, make it look good.

After, invest the rest of the money in a paint job.

Unless you were painting moldings, mirrors, bumpers ect ect you could use a white coloured rattle can. Since this is the body shell, it just wouldn't look right. You could paint the whole front fenders to make it blend it better. Just gotta do it correct and DON'T RUSH.

Goodluck

Alright, boys I just got back from work, and looked at your comments, now your making me wanna do it myself, where can I buy the oem frost white paint, how much of it should i buy, what kind of primer do i use? and what kind of bondo do i use? theres a bunch of different kinds, how do i know how much bondo to use, which type of clear do i use?

I live in canada btw.
we dont have 300 grits + we use smaller numbers so whats the equivalent to 300 grit haha, like 40 ?

While im at this, I might aswell ask this question too, if i took off my spoiler can i fuill the holes with bondo? and do the samething or no?

thanks guys, alot of questions i have, but i know you'll help :)

I thought sand paper was supposed to be universal? Have you checked home depot?

If you use just bondo on the spoiler holes it wouldn't hold up and will collapse. Some people use fiber glass + bondo for emblem holes. You could try that but the best thing to do is weld it shut.

2000 grit is used to buff surfaces...that wouldn't do anything to rust. It must be brought down to the metal. 600 or less.

Where you stay I don't know how they rate the grit of sand paper, but get something aggressive and work your way up. Primer right after.

I think we all rate the grit of sand paper the same, throughout North America. Just telling OP where to get it.

Anyways, any opinions on that "Rust Be Gone" product within the whole process?

Alright boys, I'm starting to collect everything I need, I'm definatly gonna be doing the body work myself.

- Where can I order OEM Frost white paint? (I wanna buy enough for the body work, side moldings, side skirts, mirroras, with some left over for my lip when I get it etc)
- What all grits sand paper should I buy?

Hopefully this turns out good (y)
