Heat shield noise 99 GSR

Hey, has anyone had success keeping the heat shields in the cat area tight and quiet with adjustable pipe clamps or anything? Just wanted to check before I take mine out. The buzzing drives me nuts and it's embarrassing.

by any chance does it rattle from 3000 - 3500 rpm?
It rattles/buzzes at about 2900 - 3000 and then again between 3500 - 3800 or so. Definitely two distinct spots but it sounds the same each time.

I had the same problem, with same symptoms you're describing. It's a cracked exhaust manifold.

yup. you could have it welded at any exhaust shop. I recommend buying new aftermarket headers. The stock manifold will keep cracking even after you have it welded + it'll be restrictive.

Take a look to verify this first... Still could be as simple as the lose heat shield. I just took the heat shield off of my RSX because of the same issue... It would rattle pretty bad from 2400-2900 then be fine after that.

I had the same issue on my GSR. I tried going in and tightening all the heat shields at every mounting point to eliminate it. It still rattled so I just pulled every single heat shield out from under the car. That fixed it lol

It might not even be the manifold's heat shield. It might be one that's under the car.

I doubt the manifold is cracked, check all the heat shields first.

But hey, if it is cracked, that's a great reason to get a new header!

You guys are lucky, you know where your rattle is coming from. I get a rattle when I go over bumps and potholes, not at a specific RPM range, and it doesnt seem to be my dust shields.

I agree with either the header or cat heatshields being your problem.
