Heat shield removal OK?

Hey my new short shifter is grinding on my heat shield, When I beat it out it just made things worse into a really bad rattling noise, is the heat shield really that necessary? I heard that it is just to prevent heat from getting into the car to much or something, If it is bad is there any other suggestions on what I should do about this?

I took off all the heat shilds near the cat area and I see nothing wrong. Been driving like that for a few years now. You'll be fine.

mines been off since the second day ive owned my car. Sooooo about 4 yrs and have had no issues.

Thanks guys. I couldnt really find anything about doing it on integras just trucks and other cars and they were saying how it could catch your carpet on fire, But I do live in the northwest were it is rarely hot outside so I dont think it gets to hot under the car.

your exhaust isnt close enough or hot enough to catch the carpet on fire.

Plus if you take em' all off think of the weight savings.

Those things are so the interior don't heat up take em of and drive
