Autocross cornering speed

i seen a couple of video's of autocross and i was wondering how fast do you guys go around the turns. no disrespect or anything, but it seems kinda slow when watching it. idk maybe its different when your actually driving yea??

most of the time it is relatively slow... but the point isnt to go as fast as you can its to complete the course in as little time as possible. sometimes going fast IS going slow...

depends on the type of turn...id say the fastest i have taken a turn on the autox track is like 45 or so and it was a wider turn...i never go faster than the end of 2nd gear in my car on a autox track

Let's just say that you'll probably won't use 3rd gear.

i've been on one coarse out of like 10 which i could off shifted into 3rd. Then just to immediately heel-n-toe back to 2nd. You actually get a faster time if you just let it run on the limiter in 2nd for a couple of seconds then to shift to third. Most of the time the racing about 40 to 50 in my stock ass civic but the STU class STI and Evo to run in third gear like 20 percent of the time.

BTW turning at 50 MPH is a lot faster then you think.

From my understanding, autocross is not as much about speed as the courses are laid out in very technical ways. Haven't been to one yet, but can't until I do.

I use mostly second gear on autocross courses. I can reach third on some of the courses, but I also have 265 wide DOT slicks, huge aggressive brakes and all wheel drive.

The thing about third gear is, doing 75mph in a parking lot with cones is hauling ass. The area really starts to shrink fast when hitting boost in 3rd gear. It may not look that fast, but take a ride in one. It's a lot of fun, pretty aggressive and very competitive

ive taken it to the revlimiter in 2nd and will never get out of 2nd. auto x isnt about speed, its about smoothness. your smoothness translates into speed. depending on how technical the course is ive seen revs drop down to 2000 in 2nd

Yeah your turns in autocross are not fast. Their nothing compared to a full circuit track which I've never even seen IRL. But autocross serves a different purpose then street racing or track racing, as Its ment to be a technical driving skill. Something where you can have allot of power, and do poorly in. Have small amounts of power and do great in! Pwer to Weight ratio is what its all about.
