Hello. Just purchased a '97 Integra 3-door, 5-speed car for my son and know almost nothing about these cars so I plan to spend some time on here asking a lot of questions (sorry). I was a Toyota Service Manager for 14 years and knew the importance of replacing the Timing Belt. This car has about 73K on it. The Toyotas had the 'luxury' of a "non-interference" fit valve arrangement. Is this the same with the Integra or will I do damage if it breaks? When does Acura recommend replacing it? TIA.

Welcome to the site man! yeah the b18b is a interference engine. it's 110k for a '97 but i would change it cause its 12 years old.

Hope we can all be of some help. oh and ignore the n00bie who replied just used the search button, if he knew anything he would have just told you the answer.

that's extremely low miles for a 97..glad it's in good hands! welcome! yea it can definitely cause damage if the timing belt snaps..learned the hard way in my prelude

To add, you would most likely have more damage on a GSR motor and not the LS motor you have, because the B18B1's have 'lopey' cams. The GSR cams spin freely compared to the LS cams, which lope into 4 positions when not held in place by the timing belt. There is less risk of damage compared to a B18C1 motor, but still the possibility of damage.

Thanks for the nice welcome. I'll posts some pics when I can. It's a Canadian car and the odo reads 122k kilometers so I don't think the car lot selling it realized that was only like 73k miles. Runs, drives and shifts real tight. I'll get that T-belt done. Thanks.

im sure you know this, but i would go ahead and do a full tune up just to be safe too. all fluids, filters and stuff like that

yes and while you are at it changes your hoses top and bottom of your radatior hoses.Theres a timming belt
with everything you need on e-bay for around $70.00 it also has a new water pump, this is important also
and other items also needed. This is what i am about to do to my 94 acura.
