Nope, honestly the VF's SUCK imo. The output cant compair to other turbo's and there over priced. A E316G beats the best of the VF's (VF48 ) and it still costs about 3-400 less.
That's what I thought. Evo3 Big 16G is a good turbo all around, it has good results on almost any application.

Rotated turbo?
Antilag is sick, but the ware associated with it is not :(

And rotated turbo doesnt shorten piping. Its still in the same spot, just the intake doesnt go under the intake manifold. Now a rotated manifold shortens piping, but then you lose your a/c and its a PITA!

It's a tough call. FMIC will allow you more room to expand.

How come you want to go with the 18g?

LOL, why not? Its either that or 8cm Evo 3 16G. idk yet, but the 2 of them are REALLY close. But its a nice level between power and spool, thats why. I really dont want more than 350whp, thats all you ever could ask for on the street in a DD.

LOL, 3 hrs later and im leaning back toward FMIC. LOL! Why cant there be a good concrete difference between them AAAAHHHHH! There so close. I think ill just call my tuner (local guy that is a god when it comes to Subaru tunes, been flown out around the country to tune scoobies) and ask him to make the tough call. LOL, besides I need to schedule the dyno day o_O

Yep, I have one on my GS-T ;)

They are very similar. The 18G has a little bit of peak flow and power capability but the E316G spools much faster and is still capable of 400hp

Yea, I think itll end up begin the 16. But really it will be a matter of what deals I find at the time im buying. 16G's in the scooby world get grabbed quick and go for a premium. Alot of time the basically equal 7cm 18g sits unsold and for a deal. So we will see when that comes around.

Oh and im going TMIC, looking at spool and power characteristics ill just do TMIC. I dont plan on upgrading for awhile so ill just sell the TMIC whenever I upgrade the turbo. The Td04 on FMIC is just not to my liking for the amount of time id have it like that. Plus im getting the FMIC for $100 less now. So when I do sell ill actually turn a profit on it. Power difference at my level would be no more than 5whp but add a significant lag and slow the response time dramatically (TD04 is great on filling that much of a void). Heat soak is an issue, but with the larger STI scoop and doing some thermal wrapping/reflective tape it will be minimal. Ive seen some great results from various teams with thermal protection of tmic's.

That seems odd. 16g's are dirt cheap. They're only $500 brand new
LOL, not in the Subaru world. Remember we need a whole new housing. Typical E316G's are 7-800. 18G's go from 6-900. And so on..... aka, Subaru parts = $$$$$ :(

I didn't realize they put custom housings on them. I just figured they would have a different manifold or adapter

Heat Soak Is A Mother!
Yes, but ive seen IAT readings off several race teams that went FMIC to TMIC and the TMIC is not far off AT ALL, with less than $100 in thermal protection. And given the added response there is a reason these teams are going TMIC (keep in mind these arnt 500hp+ track cars, more like 3-400hp on TMIC's). With some of the heat wrapping and ideas/results that some of these teams are coming up with the GT30R and TMIC is becoming a very popular option. Now id never do that, but im just making a point that for what im going for a FMIC is too overkill for the loss in response. A Subaru throws alot more air on there TMIC's than the other TMIC's out there today. Plus the TMIC actually sits above the tranny and has about 10in of clearance from the block. Just need to shield that turbo/dp and your set. Some teams use thermal tape on the core as well to deflect radiant.

Oh yea, its way different...
