Ok i know this engine is from the first generation and i know theres the blacktop and a browntop version but any one seen a greentop one? I was scooping out some engines at a local junyard that happens to be selling engines for about 300 dollars a pop anything u want 300!!! so i had to go look for another b18a1 and i did find one problem is that i live close to Juarez Mexico that a bunch of ....my hispanic companions...(by the way im hispanic but born in the states and proud of it) bought the dam engine before me.
So i was pissed cus they wouldn't sell it to me at the 300 dollar price but 500 so i told them where they can stick it, all pissed of i went around lookin for another and saw some good engines but not what i was lookin for and i came across 2 D16A1's one was black and another was green which through me off cus i thought they only came with a brown and black valve cover so i came home to look it up and see if i might be wrong and cant find anything that says about a green one...now.. does anyone know if this is a significant engine or someone just slap on a green one cus it looked original to me no signs of replacement

well if it was painted they did a good job cus it wasnt on the block but im heading back tommorow to by 1 or 2 heads cus they got them for 30 bills each ill take a look at that engine again and scope it out right

My name matches again lol
The valvecover was obviously painted, and those $300 engines are either stolen, have a bunch of miles on them, or don't run....then again, they are D-series engines lol

yea the cover was painted and true the engine code is what matters but i had heard the black tops are better than the brown tops i forget why i think they got more hp. and no the junkyard is selling all their stock cheap cus they are changing owners and the old owner is trying to make as much he cann before he hands it over so any engine or heads or trannies are goin dirt cheap

the matter of them being bad or not is why you visually check them out

i dont mean like that you need to take the oil pan off and look for any metal shavings turn the crank and feel if it has any drag and the remove the valve cover to see if the cams are worn turn the crank again to see the valves in motion

Metallic drain plug and everything else is a waste of time. Do a compression test and a leakdown test.
