hey guys, i was watching this video about how to drive downhill in a stick shift. The guy in the video says when going downhill its better to use the brakes and shift in neutral, and that being in a gear going downhill puts unnecessary wear on the driveline. When i looked at the comments people said the guy in the video doesnt know what he's talking about and that its very dangerous to put it in neutral when going downhill. So im confused. can someone please clear it up for me and how would you guys do it? thanks.

here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l__V619vLSQ

drive in gear when going down hill. if you ride your brakes they will heat up and eventaully fail when you need them. i typically keep it in 5th and when im entering a corner too fast i heel toe into like 4th or 3rd. but dont ride your brakes.

so how would i control my speed. would i just have to tap on the brakes? or what?

just leave the car in the correct gear for the speed your going down hill. let the engine assist in braking. now if you down shift at every stop light... that is unncecssary wear on the drive line

Are you just cruising or are you attacking the downhill? Either way, you should always be in gear. It's not safe to be in neutral, especially on the touge going downhill.

You cannot engine brake if you do that.
x2. Being in neutral downhill is dangerous and useless. Always be in gear.
Think of it like this:

The higher the gear, the higher the speed.
The lower the gear, the lower the speed.

A lower gear downhill will use the engine to "brake" some speed off of the car - useful in all situations and it spares your brakes unnecessary wear.

Just keep your foot of the clutch, Because your wheels are spinning your engine, your revs will not allow you to stall out, unless you like, stop. I never drove a Stick integra, but ive driven new car's where I didnt even have to put any gas down and the idle was high enough to not need the clutch. And Don't listen to all the guys on here busting you about not understanding everything, I give you mad credit!
