Turbo parts question

I'm new to this whole turbo thing and have afew questions. Im looking to slowly put together my own kit.
Are most turbo parts interchangable? For example, does it matter what bov or manifold I buy?
Also I have about 70k miles on my motor, is it still good to boost it or should i do a comp and leakdown test first?
Thanks for all the help

Blow off valves are mostly universal. As for turbo manifolds, you need to make sure it's the correct application for your motor. 70K is fine for boosting, but I would do a compression and/or leak down test just to be on the safe side.

Yes, you should do a compression and leakdown test first to verify your engine is healthy enough to withstand boost.

No, the parts are not necessarily interchangeable. Different brand BOV's have different flanges. you can make any BOV work as long as you pick an upper intercooler pipe that has the appropriate flange. Manifolds have different flanges depending on what turbo and wastegate is being used.

so are those the only parts i have to worry about not being interchangable?

I know this is a few weeks old, but I thought I'd help reply a bit for all to increase their knowledge

Well, it depends upon what you want to "interchange". The flanges used for the BOVs are NOT universal, though there are adapters available if you want to change BOV companies. As for the turbochargers, that is also based upon the "flanging" of the turbo and manifold. For Honda, T3 flanged turbochargers are common. These are what is most recommended for the first time builder, and it is HIGHLY recommended you stay away from the junkyard parts regardless of how "cheap" it is or what a "deal" you've found. E-bay is NOT your friend for any of these parts except perhaps intercoolers and intercooler piping.
