Noob advice for upgrading stock audio system

I have a stock 95 white integra LS (no vtec) with some busted stock speakers and stock head unit that needs to go.

I'm looking to get all new speakers (nothing too intense, might not even need a sub, although, I enjoy bass) and a pretty good head unit that has ability to use hookup USB drives for MP3 files. (my audio collection is in FLAC format but ill just downgrade to MP3 for the car)

Budget:
Head Unit: $100~200
Speakers: $100~150
Misc: $0~75
Total: $200~425

Also interested in sound dampening. Car is loud on the road. Would REALLY like to eliminate some of the outside noise. Difficult to talk on the phone when driving at speeds greater than 60mph.

Also, I'm not sure if I have the technical capabilities to install this myself. My friend (the electrician) did it himself, so I could prolly call on him for help.
I'm a computer geek not a car geek. So go easy on me :)

I would split your budget between a HU and 1 pair of decent speakers and put them up front. alpine types components are a decent speaker that fits your budget. and when it comes to HU I prefer alpine and pioneer.

get a nice alpine headunit and if you cant swing for the alpine componens Swalgier has some kicker speakers for sale.

like everyone said alpines are nice. I got a set of alpine speakers for the back of my car and they work great and give enough of that bass feel. As for the head unit i got a kenwood hu with ipod hookup. I got the head unit and speakers installed for $330 and thats with tax and installation.

a pair of type s are a good buy, these go for about 120$ cdn (per Pair)
they are probly your best bang for your buck

and if you plan on putting more money into your stereo make sure you get a decent head unit with sub out puts... just a thought

Yo. ebay is a fabulous place to get speakers. Get a Kenwood/Alpine HU with MP3 and wahtever else you want on it.
The best way to go about having a good system is get the best tweeter speakers and put bass blockers on them. and get 1 sub or 2 on a 500-1000 watt peak amp. and it will sound very nice.

Aight, thanks for all the comments guys, Gonna go look into the brand names you mentioned.

is your exhaust stock?
Yes it is, with the exception of: I removed the heat shield on the catalytic converter, that thing rattled way too much.

overkill IMO, i would like to keep my eardrums intact. I would rather block out road noise and hear cleaner sound, than having louder speakers.

you have components up front dont you? dont swap just the 6.5s....
So.... I should be leaving the speakers in the rear seats alone and only replacing the driver side and passenger door speakers?

Also, will a head unit rated at 50x4 RMS be able to power say... two of these Pioneer TS-A1683R ? Or will i need an amp? (i dont even think those will fit in my car, but anywaysl)
