White Smoke From Exhaust HELP PLEASE!

OK,

I Know This Is A Noob Type Question.. But I Have A 1994 Ls 2.0 Turbo.. And Iv Been Scratching My Head On This For 3 Days Now..

Iv Gone Through All The Steps..

Compression Tests Leaks Blah Blah Blah...

But the Motor Is Practically Brand New In The Sense Of Internals..

When i had everything bored And polished everything was replaced..EVERYTHING!!!

So Theirs Know Way I Can See It Being A head Gasket..Or Even I Seal Unless 50+ Miles Could Do Such A Thing..

5 Days Ago The Car Wasn't Smoking At All! Then Out Of Know Where like A new york snow storm SMOKE...

It is A White Slightly Heavy Smoke.. And There Is Sort Of A Smell Too It But I Almost Want To Say It Smells Like Fuel But Its White Smoke.. And I'm Running Near High Optimal (Border Line Optimal In To rich) I Dont Understand.. The Coolants At The Same Level The Oil Is A Little Low And It Only Does This When It Warms Up But Does Not Over Heat.. No Air In Radiator (no bubbles) no cracks in the head.. The Only Thing That I Can Think Of Is The Turbo..(brand New mind You..) Is It Possible To Blow A gasket On The turbo manifold from over boosting that would cause the car to smoke? (turbos not blown.. no play in turbine neither..)


I Almost Have No Hair Left From Scratching So Much Over This Problem.. I mean I Can Go on For Months With The New Parts List So it just keeps making the posiblities list shorter but still cant find it..

new sparks
new wires
new distributor
ect.

Mind You Car Still Runs Great As If Theirs Nothing Wrong.. But I Do not Understand... There Were No Signs.. No light smoke to slightly heavy to heavy ... just poof smoke.. idk

Any ideas will defiantly help if i didn't already try them...

White smoke is usually tell-tale of a head gasket problem. Did you put the motor together yourself?

yeah, but ive seen when its a lot of oil it can burn white, how quick does the smoke start after you start it up?

Not Till It Starts To Warm Up.. (when the temp gauge just starts to move)... And It Could Be Blue Smoke But Every time I Got To Check Its Ether After Work When Its Dark Or Before Work And Its Windy.. Blowing A Gasket In The Turbo Would Make It Smoke..? y..

Oh.. And I For Got To Mention... The Coolant Level Has Stayed Exactly The Same Haven't Added A drop And Sense The Smoke Still Hasn't Gone Down At all..???

Oil From Where... Turbo? If So What Gasket Is It.. Turbo To Manifold Or Manifold Head Or Oil Intake Line (idk if theres a gasket there?)


Any Ideas?

Agreed. It's not misfiring either, which would point against the head gasket.

What turbo are you using (and is it an ebay kit)? I can't tell from the pic lol. How much abuse has it had?

Oil feed maybe? Idk I don't have too much experience w/ turbos :lol:

lol, Its Not a ebay kit.. abuse.. hmmm well i did have a friend that drove the car for a "ride" and not sheer if the problem was before or after this.. but i check the turbo controller randomly the other day also and saw it was all most all the way loosened meaning for you non turbo guys that the turbo was practically all the way up.. Also I just took a sample of coolent.. Its Redish Type Coolent And I Let It Sit.. No Oil Was There And Nothing Rose To The Top But Idk If Anti-freeze Has A Oil Type Gloss To The Top (shine)..? Because That Was Presant But Very Very Veryy little.. Dident even notice it untill the light hit it just right..

what Type Of Turbo.. hmmm Not To Shere To Be honest.. It Says .70 On The Side And The Turbine Wheel Is About The Size if my Fist..


Still Have No Idea What This Is.. And Also To Refresh Memories.. When The Car Warms At Idle It Smoke Very Very Light Not Noticable During The Day Thats How Fant When You Get On The Gas On The Other Hand And Everything Spools Up And Such Around idk.. 4-5 rpm Then The Smoke Poors Out Again Cant Tell If Its White Or Blue Still Dont Get that..?

Your Problem...

I know it's been a few months, but if the motor was a fresh rebuild, ESPECIALLY being a turbo mod car, you would need to seat the rings properly. If you don't seat the rings (i.e. driving it like your running the fastest 1/4 time ever), then they will smoke all the time. If this is the case, replace the rings, which means a whole other tear down.
