AT Faster Gear Shifts?

What’s up guys-
I searched some of the old pages already so if I missed a post that went over this, "I’m sorry."

I have a 95 integra with an AT-Trans (GSR) and I wanted to speed up the time between gear shifts. Someone told me I could look into a "Shift Kit." But I havnt been able to find very much info. I've found a few different kits but they are all for Ford/Chevy. So I was hoping some of you know more about it. Where can I find it online or at least a website with better details regarding models and application? I’ve seen some that are just seals and gaskets and others that are actual gear swaps with new pins. (Please note this is not a "Short Shift Kit.")

My second question is regarding turbo - I plan on installing a turbo later. Would it be a bad idea to have both a turbo and a shift-kit at the same time, since the kit forces the transmission to shift with one gear instead of two (causing a harder shift.) I don’t want to slam the gas from a dead stop and have my transmission bust open.

Lastly after reading some other posts I noticed a few mentioned Torque Converters for more whp, will that transfer into shift speed? I.E. if I can’t locate a kit, can I install a torque converter and at least have a modest improvement? Thanks in advance to any helpful replies.

- Telling me to swap out for a 5 speed is not helpful
.

Shift kit is going to be very hard to find for an Integra. If you do find one you can have your gears kryo (sp?) treated and that should help a little. I wouldn't worry too much about tearing the tranny apart unless you make some serious power. I have seen high stall torque converters for sale before. These are not bad at all. Basically its going to allow you to bring the RPM's up higher while launching and it will also bring it closer to redline and shift harder when you floor it. Kind of like slamming into second. As far as the turbo goes the biggest problem you are going to run into is tunning. If you run any decent setup everyone is going to recomend something like....Hondata, lol. There are nothers like neptun and crome but for the price Hondata S100 will do everything that 95% of the people really need. Problem is it doesn't work with Auto trannys. So you'll have to use something else to tune. The other thing is make sure your manifold works with radiator. If you have to change over to half side civic radiator you're going to run into problems finding a good one that fits an auto since it has a tranny cooler.

I was in your same boat. I gave up and swapped in a 5-speed.

Yeah swapping out for a 5SP is like %80 of the answers I get. I know that any Manuel with a decent driver is going to be quicker when compared in just about any car class but due to a series of events; I’ve become neck deep in an uphill mod-project. I was talking to my friend about swapping my engine with a B18c and "bang" next day he comes up on an import with the EMU, Alternator, Headers, and Transmission for less than 3K. He buys it along with some new brackets and mounts and before I know it, we're trying to shoe horn it into my car.

"What’s wrong, it should fit easy... right?"

"... I think it’s a little bigger because of the automatic transmission."

From that point on it been a scramble to find import parts and get the whole thing done. We're pretty much at the last step, but since I've spent so much time and money on it - I want to build it up to the maximum amount conceivably possible. The more people tell me AT's suck the more determined I become to make this happen.

Thank you for the info though, now I have a new direction to explore.

Honestly- Beats me. I told him I wanted a B18c6 then he calls me the next day and says a scrapper in LA has an imported Integra GSR and it has an automatic transmission. They'll sell it to me with the transmission included for $2900. When I asked what model the engine it was he said it’s an original GSR
(B18c1) but all we had to do was swap the intake and headers and it would make up for the difference. I took his word for it and never bothered to match up any serial numbers, but I don’t think he would lie to me.

It's only now after trying to find all the missing parts that I have learned how rare it is in the US. But I have the engine and transmission so they must exist.

Automatic GSR's exist and the trannys are getting easier to find online. A tc won't gain you any whp but will help your car shift faster. Level ten is your best bet. If you have the money, they will set you up with what you need.

Yes but not in the us market and not on a b18c1. If it's a swap ok.

there are automatic gsr's in the us. i'm pretty sure they caame in the 4 door gsr but were very rare.

to the OP, if you have an actual gsr at trans and end up swaping it out, i'd be interested in bhuying it.

and Level 10 is the only place i know of that will work on auto honda/acura transmissions. they are quite pricey though...

Yeah I already checked out L10 - I'm still deciding how desperate I am. I hear the GSR trans are pretty tough so I may be able to help my OTL (Off the line) performance by starting in Tow Gear (#2) and shifting up to D4 after take off. I hear thats really bad for your car though. I cant see myself paying 5K for a L10 custom transmission when I already have a working GSR transmission. I was hoping to find a shift kit to keep me from running the poor thing into the ground.

DA6righthand- At this point I dont think were going to be swapping the transmission. If that changes I'll send you a pm.

x2. Absolutely no GS-R automatic models were ever sold in the U.S.
You are both correct, but in japan there did exist a gsr in an AT tranny. Like stated before they are hard to find but they were only in the jdm. My buddy was going to purchase one off h-motors at one point but ending up not doing so.:)
