downshifting

i think it choke b/c everytime i tried to make a turn/slow down i just clutch in and downshift.

Most drivers, when downshifting, merely press in the clutch after letting off the throttle, jam the stick in a lower gear, and then let out the clutch. In modern vehicles, this is possible with synchromesh transmissions, but is usually accompanied by a sudden rearward weight transfer, if not any less-than-harmonious engine/transmission noises. To the occupants, especially the passenger, this jerkiness can be annoying, and in spirited driving, this sudden weight transfer can have an adverse effect on handling.

Are you saying that when you go around a turn you push the clutch down and let the revs go all the way down? Then shift?

It sounds to me like you are not rev matching correctly.

so tell me if this is wrong because i really have no idea at this point and want to learn correctly, when i heel toe downshift i:

1. press the break pedal
2. press in the clutch
3. blip the throttle with my heel
4. put the car into a lower gear
5. let go of the clutch

the only thing i have a problem with is that the revs drop too fast when i downshift =/

All the steps should be synchronized in one motion. Everything has to flow smoothly like a wave... I'm going to record my footwork one of these days. Best Motoring style!

Yes you are correct. Don't confuse heel-and-toe with double-clutching. The techniques are very much different. In heel-and-toe, you are only clutching once. In double-clutching, well... you know what I'm going to say. Lol! Did you watch the video I recently posted? Manly driving his Elise.

Rev matching is key. A) it allows you to not burn the hell out of your clutch, B) it makes for a way smoother and all in all better downshift. Brake, put clutch in, tap the gas, let the clutch out, continue turning or braking whatever you were doing.
