as some of you know, we lost a an LS on the 3rd of jan, they found it and we're still in the process of getting a check from insurance company.

we got another integra and brought it to a local shop to change the timing belt, water pump. He also put the alternator belt on when doing all that. My bro picked up the car and drove for less than 30 miles, the alternator belt snapped on V-night. brought back to the shop and he now said the alternator is not the right one so it broke the alternator belt. Is this true or his employee or even himself didn't put the belt on right last time? IF the alternator is not the right one, he would notice it when he put the belt on right? and as a mechanic you gotta to know what you are doing if not then tell the customer before start doing it, am i right?

any advice would appreciated!

Integra God
if the belt broke, it is because of improper tension. the integra has very specific alternator brackets, so you really wont fit anything but the right one on. and it has to be from the right year to plug into your wiring harness. that shop is full of it. its just a damn alternator belt, they are 15 dollars. i dont know why they just wont fix it and be done.

he (the shop owner) said the alternator is the wrong one in there, and that was why it broke the belt and now we have to pay $280 to replace the alternator and the new belt, i know it doesnt cost that much for the belt just like you said under $20.

I agree with patrick. I call bullshit on the alternator being the wrong one. The belt was probably too tight

hey thanks guys for all the positive feedbacks. yeah, he's trying to rip me off obviously. I thought so too, cuz if it's the wrong alternator in there, he would notice that will break the belt later if the pattern is not right of the alternator and the pulley.......B/S!

nothing from nowhere
if the old belt shredded it probally was off a groove, if the old belt looked pretty old chances are he made a mistake, just tell him to put on a new belt.

Yep, he's trying to rip you off. Tell him he better put a new belt on there or you're going to report him to the Better Business Bureau..... What a jack-off.... I recommend not going to that mechanic again.

Sometimes all it takes is a little incentive and they will obey.
