brake light problem

a relative asked me to replace a brake light bulb in her '96 teggy, but it doesn't look like that will cure the problem.

The problem: tail lights work but brake lights don't, although the 3rd safety brake light does work. My first thought was a fuse problem but it doesn't appear there is a separate fuse for brake vs tail lights.

Would anyone know what may be the problem?

I would take the bulbs out and check them, cuz she still have her 3rd brake light on. the sides bulbs prob. out ........

isn't the tail light bulb and the brake light bulb the same bulb?

The tail lights are on but pressing the brake doesn't intensify the light.

yes they are just one bulb for low beam and brake light, but has two wires inside if you hold the bulb up and look you will see them wires in there.

YEs, I just pulled both bulbs and both filament in each bulb looks good. I really don't think it's the bulb's but may buy a replacement to make sure.

Anyone know if this might be a fuse problem?

nothing from nowhere
i pulled up the wiring diagram 4u but i cant post it so ill type it. the brake light feed comes from the switch to the rear it splits off somewhere in the back to feed the brake lights and high mount lamp.they both share the same feed and grounds So if its not the bulbs u have a broken wire somewhere. I would suspect the connection failed at the splice. It is green/white wire. I hope u can use this.

Thanks for the info. I may see the car again tomorrow and will try to check out the wiring. I'll also check the fuses again for a stop too.
