New Clutch Advice

Greetings:

New to the forum. I am considering installing a new clutch.

I have done alil research and am interested in the Exedy stage 1. I want long lasting and fun. I am just using my car as a daily driver and will probably just install a short ram intake for fun. Is this clutch a good one for my purposes?

What websites could I go to purchase something like this and is there anything else I need like a Flywheel?

Also, I am considering do this job myself. I have some experience around cars. Standard stuff like radiator replacement, brakes, exhaust, intake, and of course changing oil. I am no expert but I think it would be a fun project. Is it a manageable task for a backyard mechanic (working in my garage)? How difficult is this task? Where can I get step by step instructions?

Thanks guys!

The Exedy Stage 1 is perfect for a mildly modded, daily driven car. I would get the Exedy flywheel with it as well although you don't have to. You can just have your stock flywheel resurfaced. The lighter Exedy flywheel will improve the acceleration and throttle response

Excellent, that is what I thought about the stage 1....now do you think I can do it myself??

Is the flywheel hard to replace. I'd almost just want to go that route.

How much total are we looking at just for parts?

i finally got around to installing the exedy stage 1 clutch and exedy 9.5 lbs flywheel the other week and i love it :thumbs up.

it's exactly what dc2GS-R has stated.

someone who has some experence and tools should be able to do this.

the hardest part of replacing the flywheel is breaking loose the 8 bolts. a compressor and a good impact gun works great

i purchased the clutch assembly and flywheel package from gripforce-clutches, a retailer on ebay. they accepted my best offer of $450 shipped

good luck!

I talked to a mechanic and he said lightweight flywheels often cause idling problems. Did you notice this. Or was he BSing me since he didnt want to install a lightweight.

I've never had a problem with a light flywheel. I also can't imagine why he wouldn't want to install it. Even if you don't use a flywheel, you still need to remove the stock one and have it resurfaced. It's no additional labor to just throw a new one on. Unless he doesn't plan on resurfacing the flywheel either, which is not a good idea
