Which grade gas?

Okay, I had read about this guy who was running his Acura with the 87octane, and he was getting some trany problems. He then said he switched to 89octane and it had helped and or solved his problems. I was wandering if i should keep shoveling the extra 10c a gallon into my tank or is it fine to run on the cheap gas?

2000 Acura 3.2 TL

thx for the info =]

WTF. Gas doesn't have to do SHIT with the tranny..... Check your manual. Different cars use different octane ratings. Integra GSR's use 91 premium, but rs, gs and ls' use 87.... I dunno about a TL's V6, but my Jetta's V6 was RECOMMENDED 91, but I used to use 87 until I got the ecu chip, now i HAVE to use 91.

open your gas door and it should say premium or whatever is recommended. if you still don't know call your acura dealership tomorrow.^^^^^ hes right about the tranny

It would be stated in the back of the owners manual. Some engines require the use of premium, because of how it burns in the engine. I beleive higher octanes have a higher temperature at which they burn, so that affects when they cumbust in the cylinder head, and can affect the cycling of the pistons? Some one please correct me if Im wrong

I have always ran 87 in everything (I have had like 20 different cars... no joke) and I have had a cadillac which stated you should put premium in it.... i have never had any kind of problems. The only time I didn't use 87 was when my tsi awd was being a good little car and not breaking down on me

What grade gas you use has absolutley nothing to do with the tranny. But anyway, if you don't use the recommended grade of gas it won't hurt anything, but your engine will make a little less power, possibly affects gas mileage too. The ECU will detect any knock coming from your engine that would be caused by lower grade gas and make adjustments for it so that it doesn't hurt the engine.

Gasoline works with the motor not the tranny so it would not affect it in any way whatsoever. In a 3.2L acura motor I would run premium because for 1. It recommends It 2. It better for the motor (if youre the kind of person to take care of your cars) and 3. You get better mileage with higher octane anyway.
Put premium in it, its probably a nice car.

All acura TL required premium fuel, it said right on the speedometer, dont tell me you didn't see it. Except integra GS,LS,RS, and standard RSX can use regular fuel ( but i would put 89 in them, the lower the grade, the dirtier the fuel) ALL OTHER ACURAS REQUIRED PREMIUM FUEL ONLY :)

Octane rating doesn't have anything to do with how clean gas is. Brand name determines how clean the gas is.
Somewhere on the site is a thread with a great post by dc2GS-R about which gas companies are the cleanest. I know Shell is on that list. Hmmmm....maybe he'll put that info back up in this thread. He is the man, after all.

Chevron, Texaco, 76, and Shell are all really good. I stick with Chevron and Shell. Everyone knows theyre the best.
