It just catches the oil vapor going to the intake while still allowing for vacuum

It helps with N/A cars as well. Just about every car has a vacuum line sourced from the intake that goes to the valve cover. They all suck oil vapor in. Some more than others, turbo cars more than N/A cars. But they can all benefit from this. It's just to keep nasty oil and buildup out of your intake, throttle body, intake manifold....etc.
