how to get extra clean windows

so my front windshield was starting to look pretty bad as far as clean goes and windex wasnt cutting it. so i went to the old man for some advice and this is what he had me do.

1) Using a CLEAN razor blade and ammonia(found in household cleaning dept of any store) scrape the entire surface of the window in 2 directions.I first did side to side, then top to bottom. When your done with this use a clean towel and wipe off the excess ammonia. *when your using the razor blade be sure to apply even pressure so you avoid causing any scratches*

2) Then use a spray on wax on the window surface. Apply it just like you would to any surface of your car. Then take it off with a clean section of towel. This was a great thing for 2 reasons- 1 it applied a really nice shine, 2 it works just like that rain-x stuff so it should hopefully stay clean longer.

3) Finally use that trusty bottle windex and do a good cleaning to remove any excess wax residue.

If you do this on all of your windows im sure youll see an improvement. I know i did. I was very surprised but this really did a great job of getting all the crap off my windows that wouldnt come off with a normal wash. I would post pics, but i was in a rush when i did this and didnt get a chance to get any. I hope this helps some of yall out! :)

Steel wool and windex for lubricant works wonders on very gunky windows too. Just throwing it out there. When i was a porter at a Lexus Dealership that's what we would use on really stubborn windows.

Nice! Razorblades work wonders. Didn't think to use straight ammonia(windex contains ammonia btw)

yep works really good just as long as you don't press too hard because then you can get micro-scratches. I gotta do that to my daily soon the window is getting nasty

Steel wool is ok to use on the out side of the windows only if you have tint. If oyu have tint..dont put a steel wool pad anywhere near your car.

i think he just means don't use steel wool on the inside of any windows if you have tint. I don't use steel wool on anything but the outside of my windows. And tell me if i'm wrong but all applied tint is put on the inside of windows correct? Or are you talking about permanently tinted windows?

If I'm washing the car, then I'm usually claybarring it as well. I'll just run the claybar over the windows as well. Then top if off with Stoner's Invisible Glass...that stuff works wonders.

thou shalt not be afraid of claybar. I was hesitant the first time i used it. I used Mother's clay-bar kit and I haven't looked back since. Clay-barring the car once a year (minimum) will yield awesome results.

I wouldn't do it that frequently on REALLY NEW or REALLY OLD paint-jobs though.
