Hello, I am looking into purchasing a teg and I found one pretty cheap, but something sounds fishy to me. I found a 1998 rs with 260,000 miles on it and they say that the compression is low in one cylinder. Is it a easy fix or trouble.
this is what the ad says:
1998 RS model, power locks and cruise control, power windows, Ice cold A/C, original engine, transmission and clutch were replaced at 211k, timing belt and water pump replaced at 205k, tires replaced in October 08 (90% tread), all new brake pads, i have the spoiler. one cylinder has low compression (60lbs), driven everyday, no accidents, doesn't smoke at all but it idles funny. KBB in "fair" condition is $2,100.
what do you guys think? Thanks for the help.

how much are you paying him?

that's a fuck load of miles for a 98 integra. and that low compression could be killer.... What shape is the body in?

the body looks good, but I can't take any chances. I thought that was a boat load of miles. I already have one dead car, I can't afford 2. Guess I will have to keep looking. Thanks for the info. (I have a dead mitsubishi eclipse gst, fried the rings... don't know what to do with it)

low comp in one cylerder means that the rings are gone and your going to have to rebuild that motor, and i bet money that it smokes black smoke. there ad makes no sense, if you replace the timing belt and water pump then put in a new engine... did they put the new timing belt and waterpump on the new engine? how new is the new engine, how many miles did it have on it before the put it in there car... i wouldnt buy it, sounds like a pain in the ass... wait til you can find something you like and can trust

happy hunting

Nightmare it sounds like. Im a salesman and an experienced car buyer and unless you want a project car that wont be worth dick after you put a bunch of money into it cuz of the super high miles on the chassis, then you dont want it. Even being in good shape bodywise I'd give them $500 max.

Just keep hunting until you run across something that screams GOOD DEAL all over it. I bought a 97 integra GSR, type r wing, sick rims (even tho they were 18s), skunk 2 shifter, I/H/E, 98 front and back conversion, with a fresh paint job for $5000 CLEAN TITLE! My friend was goin to jail for his 3rd DUII and needed to sell the thing. Car was worth $7700 at the time. I miss it so much.... it got jacked and stripped for pretty much everything.

sorry i tried to rotate the pic but it came out like this

low compression doesn't always mean rings... it could be bent valves or a blown headgasket too
