for whatever reason this doesnt happen consistnetly, its like once every 3 drives or so. but sometimes when i drive for a little and park my car, i smell a burning rubber smell. I sniffed all around my car, and the smell is only coming from under the hood. the first time it ever happened, there was smoke coming from under my hood, but since then its just the smell, no smoke. any clues? engine temp is fine, oil is fine....so wat gives?

my money is on a heater hose lol

just go on drive and wait for the smell, and pop the hood and check all your hoses before you melt one and lose all your coolant and over heat your car

lol gl

I'm assuming you have an aftermarket intake. If it doesn't have some kind of mounting support than it's probably laying directly on your hoses. As the intake's piping heats up it will melt through the rubber wrappings. The longer you drive, the hotter it gets, hence you don't smell it on shorter trips. You'll definitely want to remedy that before it gets any worse.

Also, if you've disconnected any hoses for new parts make sure you fully remove or replace them, if they're just bouncing around your engine bay loose they will most likely rest on something hot and start melting. Check around your intake manifold, headers, radiator and head. Especially in places where aftermarket parts have been installed. Look for hoses that have burn marks or warps, that's your culprit.

Probably more than you asked for, but just trying to help troubleshoot. GL.

I learned this the hard way in high-school, DON'T HALF-ASS YOUR INSTALLS.

my car is stock, lol. only thing that wasnt stock when i got the car was the exhaust. exhaust manifold, intake etc are all stock. only things i have added were hid headlights and clear tail lights, so it isnt anything from an aftermarket install. this sucks cause i really cant see a source of the problem, even when i try to re create it, all i smell is the burning rubber smell, and see no source to it, its scaring me a lot right now....

i would inspect your belts they may be slipping is it running rough when you smell the rubber

well, i took it to a shop to check the belts, and they said the belts are fine, but they found oil all over. so its an oil leak, but they dont know from where since its all over...i do recall when this problem started it was right after i went into a driveway off a road, and there was like a gap deeper than i thought, so i drove right over it at like 20mph....so maybe its my oil pan?

So apparently you're mistaking oil burning for rubber? Well, consistently check your oil levels, if it's going down then that's your problem. If not, then you've got to search.

Besides, you don't want burning rubber smells from your engine bay. What you want is that sweet scent of success coming from your front tires. Then you know your golden.

are you revving the engine and riding the clutch... because then you will get a slight smell from you rclutch that could be mistaken for burning rubber...
