Smoke

My 1999 Acura Integra GS(135,xxx) smokes like crazy when i first start it up in the morning! The colder it is outside, the worse it smokes. It does fine after the engine has heated up, unless im shifting at high rpm... I've been told it lets out a nice puff of white smoke every time i shift at high rpm. What is causing it? The smoke is white.

i was going to say that your valve seals are bad... they are a PITA to change... seriously... but then u said the smoke is white... hows ur coolant?... check that oil cap... any milky residue?

no residue on the oil cap, and my coolant is fine.

Someone else will know better and may correct me, but it is possible that your rings are bad. Which causes the smoking while cold, but when it warms up the rings expand and seal better, hence no smoking when its warm.

Again, I could be wrong.

That's what i heard from the local shops. I was just looking for some input on what the Integra Club had to say about it! Wasn't sure if it was common or what!? I am planning on getting a b18c1 swap though, so im not really worried about it. It's just really embarrassing!

blue smoke is oil... white smoke is water/coolant/oil... check your compression... hows ur oil level?... car doesnt overheat or anything?...

u might be mixing up white smoke for blue smoke... if it is burning oil, its very possible you have a valve seals problem...

pictures wont do anything for us to help diagnose your problem...

get a compression test done on ur cylinders... know how to do it?... if not, just ask... its as easy as changing ur spark plugs and starting ur car... the numbers should stay pretty close to each other... like... cyl 1 = 205, cyl 2 = 203, cyl 3= 208, cyl 4= 206... i think the tolerance is +/- 5% across the board...

a leak down test will also help diagnose problems...

it shouldnt cost much at a shop to run the tests...

Its either your rings or valve seals, or a combo of both. Take it to a shop and have them do a leak-down test to see if there is any compression loss. you can try to use engine restorer to try to slow down the leak.
