alright.. i came here before with the fluctuating idle issue.. and im back with it. Im not payin to take this thing to the shop if i dont have too.. i've checked the IACV, and hte PCV annd one more i cant remember what its called.. starts with an F.

Its fluctuating between 1600rpm and 3000rpm

Anyways got a vaccum/bleeder kit from advanced and checked all the vac lines.. nothing. had a bad gasket on the throttle body and replaced that didnt do anything...

thinking the fuel pump could be going bad too... got a walbro 255 for cheap! need injectors though..

a friend just told me to check timing which i didnt think to do so i'll do that tomorrow.

any input is appreciated..

sounds like a leak somewhere...
make sure everything is plugged in the right spots.

not sure why timing would be the cause of that, but go for it...

your fuel pump shouldn't be the cause of a surge like that either. it'd be your injectors that cause the problem.

timing has to do with the injectors dumping to much fuel correct?

umm... yes and no?

injectors would be more your fuel map, but if that was getting fucked up you'd have a code for cat malfunction.

if your car is THAT far out of timing where the injectors are dumping at the wrong time then I guess... but I hope your car isn't that fucked up.

i had a friend who had the same problem with his second gen. i dont remember what it was but i know it was in the throttle body somewhere... ill find out and let you know. i think it was the throttle position sensor tho...

TPS wouldn't have anything to do with a surging idle...

Idle surges are usually caused by the throttle body (or something attached to it), vacuum leaks or a dead sensor.

Things like the MAP sensor, Coolant temperature sensor, IACV, TPS, vacuum leaks...etc. If the timing was off, it would just run like crap, not idle surge. Dirty or clogged fuel injectors usually wouldn't cause that either.

It sometimes can be fixed by cleaning the TB. Clogged ports and whatnot in the TB can cause it.

im gonna try another IACV from a b16 an see if that works.. we unplugged it and it still fluctated but not as bad.. so im hoping this is the problem.

somebody told me to check my 02 sensors.... how would that affect my idle?

The ECU uses feedback while in open loop mode from the primary o2 sensor to calculate fuel delivery.

But if the o2 sensor is dead, it will throw a CEL

It should be fine then. I seriously doubt that the o2 sensor would cause idle problems. I broke the wire of the primary o2 sensor on my Eclipse GST when installing a 3" downpipe. I drove around for a week with the o2 sensor not even connected while waiting on my new one to come in and it ran fine.

gotcha, i didnt think that it would affect the idle. i didnt know that the IACV's were so expensive... alomst 200 bucks?? crazy.

I thought you ruled out the IACV?

Anyway, if you are going to get one and see then just be careful on the install not to get it dirty, scratch it or deface it in anyway. If it fixes the problem then it's probably worth the money. If not then return it. Or you could always just try to find one on some forums and hope it works
