idle problem

i have a 2000 gsr...when i start my car it idles around 1800-2000 but never goes down. if i wait till the engine is warm then shut it off and start it again it will idle fine at 800. also when im driving and i push in the clutch the rpms will stay at around 2000 until the car comes to a complete stop..ive replaced the iacv, tps also i have a skunk 2 manifold...nothings seems to work...everyone says its a vacuum leak but why when i shut it off and restart it, it works fine except the rolling idle problem..i dont see how a vacuum leak can fix it self by waiting for the car to get warm and then restrting it......also i installed a set of dc sport headers and i have a pretty nasty exhaust leak either from the head or the cat...would that rob my car of massive power??

HOLY SH!T BATMAN. I have the same exact problem. Idles at 2000rpms then drops to about 1500RPM at a stop. Usually i shut the car off to lower it like you say to about 1500 and then 600 when at a complete stop. I know my cat is bad and i have one that should be here today. I am thinking it may be that. I had my mechanic look at it and he said "they all do it". So obviously that was no help. I also think i hear an exhaust leak up front. Dont know for sure yet. Once i get that cat onand the car in the air i will know for sure.

So you have a warm up regulator that makes your car idle higher when it's cold to help get it up to temperature quicker. I'm guessing that's what your talking about. All cars do this, older Hondas seem to do it more than most. I really wouldn't worry about it, nothing major.

NO i know what he is talking about. I make 2 hr trips from where i live to another place and it will still do it...

the idle never drops. the only way i can get it to drop to 800 is wait for the car to get warm and shut it off and restart it, then it idles normaly.

Could possibly be the ISC motor or Coolant Temp sensor. Either one should throw a CEL if they are shot though

question, when the engine is cold, how long does it take for the temp gauge needle to move to normal operatiing temperture?

If it's staying up until you shut it off I'd go with what dc2-gsr was saying about thet isc or temp sensor.

i got my exhaust done and had my cat removed and got 2.5 in exhaust now the car runs normal, no more problem...kinda weird it had to have been my cat..but i never had a check engine light telling me it was bad..what do you think??
