piston help for turbo build

I want to turbo my 99 gsr but Im going to rebuild it first, I think its better to run lower compression pistons when boosting but I was wondering will I notice a difference or will it harm my engine to run with the lower compression pistons for a couple of weeks before the turbo is installed. Any corrections or advice is appreciated, thanks

It won't necessarily harm the engine but it will be a good bit slower due to the lack of compression and the cams not being even closed to matched to running N/A low compression

ok gotcha, also whats a good compression ratio to run, ive seen 8.8, 10, 11.5, I know the stock compression is 10.1

Depends on how much boost you plan on running through which turbo really. But 9 or 9.5:1 is always a good starting place to think about. As for brands, that depends on your preferences, budget and the rest of the build.

JE pistons are OK...if you want better ones go with CP Pistons or Arias.
what's your reasoning behind je's being "ok" how are cp's or arias better? When i had my bottom end built i was told je's a very a good way to go so that's what i went with. Been holding up to 300+whp now since april.

ive have had JE's in my car too, and I had it on the dyno and after a couple runs we looked inside the motor and one of the pistons had chipps taken off of it...and that was an all motor ls on a 75 shot tuned with hondata...could of just been a bad set...

plus shop around where i live ususally go with CP...but that just might be a preferance.

im not nagging JE even though they didnt impress me with my car...im just saying that there are other piston companies out there that have their pistons with more R&D into them thats all..

yea everyone has a preferance with pistons...honestly call around shops and ask questions about different types...most pistons companies have different styles of pistons as well depending on your setup.

If you had chips on your pistons then they weren't installed right. I ran JE pistons a turbo ls running around 20psi on a t67 and even after the valves went through two of the pistons the block was still good enough to run and even though the pistons had holes in them they still stayed in tact. So just giving my opinion, but I think they are pretty damn good. Now I'm running CP, I have a little over 100 miles on them so we'll see how they turn out.
