when you guys drive with the air conditioner on, does your car turn from fuel efficient to gas hog? mine seems to..and i was wonderign about yall. also does your a/c ever squeek?

AC compressor is powered by the engine itself so yes, it will use more gas.

But Mythbusters(that show on Discovery Channel) did an experiment and actually found that fuel economy is better with AC on windows up, rather than AC off windows down. But from personal experience, thats not true.

I would assume the squeaking is the belt.

I bet they didn't use a DSM. I swear those a/c's eat like 20hp when the compressor is on. It is ridiculous how much you can feel the power loss. There isn't enough wind resistance in the world to overcome a DSM a/c. They blow nice and cold though. The Integra isn't near as bad though

You only loose about 1-2 mpg with the AC on, theres other factors that hurt gas milage. Tires, susension, how much you lay into the throttle. air filter...etc.

Braking def eat's mpg, and over accelerating.

Yes the A/C eats fuel, but not as much as you may think it is. I also agree with the others. Other factors play along with the gas mileage.

this is true for instance, after your car warms up and idles at 800rpms turn on the AC it will drop down to 600-500 rpms somewhere in that neigborhood. that isnt alot but ac does kill power, so you go slower

i think like anything under 50mph the windows down are more efficient, but over that the resistance with the windows down over 50 or is causes less gas milage

that was also only done in 1 type of car, wasn't it?

I never really notice a difference in my mileage if I used the AC or not.... but then again, when you're getting as much as I do, who really pays attention to those thing? lol
