hey folks, im new to this site. currently 16, getting my liscence in october.. a buddy of mine found me a 92 integra with 140k miles on the body, but did a motor swap... so the engine has 29,000 miles on it (gsr).. its got 17' konigs all around, AEM intake, flowmaster exhaust, vtec controller and whatnot... hes looking for about 4 grand. i think its a good deal, but im not too fond of the 92 body style. how much money would i be looking at to convert the body style to around 1996? or, what do you guys think about the 92 body style? i might keep it.. gotta decide 8)

theres no way to convert to a 96 body style unless you get a shell and swap i nthe gsr motor the DA has in it. i personally would keep the DA body you would end up spending alot more money in the end swapping out to a DC body.

I'd look for a stock car with receipts and records showing maintenance that's been done on the vehicle.

Personally, I'd never buy a car that has been modified heavily (motor swap, conversions, etc). Only small mods like wheels, etc.

Where are you located? I would use autotrader.com or cars.com and look around in your area for cars.

we cant emphasize this enough. you dont know who did the swap, there is so many things that can go wrong, mechanic could be lazy and forget to do stuff so on and so forth. i suggest getting a carfax report and finding out all you can about the car. Carfax is a good resource for buying cars. Also just find a stock car.

CarFax is a given, IMO.

But for those who don't know about it, never buy a car without one.

You can also check the value of the car by going to kbb.com or nada.com. They're pretty good to be honest, but if it's limited production, it really doesn't show the true value (i.e. if you're in the market for an ITR, the value is real low which is not the case in real life).

I recommend CarFax but even more important take a friend with a good eye with you to look at cars. CarFax won't tell you if I rear end someone and buy a new bumper and core support off of forums and put it on in my garage.

KBB and NADA are good for most cars. Some are way off though. Go compare their value of a pristine MKIV Supra Turbo versus one on the market  (usually off by about 5k-10k)

KBB and NADA are mostly suggestions, IMO.

For non-ITRs I think its pretty acurate.

And also, mods to a car do not increase the value, they actually decrease it.

you need a carfax and a friend that knows cars to go check it out. in my book a stock car with records is worth more than any car that has aftermarket parts. i'd try and stay away from any modified car for your first car. like someone said above buying a car with rims and aftermarket stereo is ok, but i get weary once the engine is touched. and also, 4k seems high. i paid 1600 for a clean one owner (old lady) stock 93 ls. kbb is what dealers use, you can use the edmunds value for a starting bargaining point. good luck

If the car was an untouched GSR...$4k would be a good price. But for an LS or RS its not worth that...even if it has a GSR motor

I wouldnt trust that car unless I knew who built it and owned it.

ONLY couches pull out!!!!
for 4 k you can get you a 94-01 body style.

my friend bought his 98 5sp ls for 4k.........in great condition......i envy him.....the car still remains stock.

i doubt its a 92 gsr as he said it has a motor swap. if it was a stock 92 gsr in excellent condition, yes i would consider it but its most likely an ls with a swap. i'd say pass simply because of price.

I understand that its probably not a GSR....hence the word "if" at the beginning of the sentence, making it a conditional statement.;)
