this past week after alot of sweat and labor putting a new set of shocks/coilovers into the car, it looked like i was ready to rock and roll.....at least i thought so.

I'm all really excited now that i have the car lowered, but the problem is when i took it out for a test drive, i hear clunks and thumps on the two front shocks ( driver/passenger sides) when i hit little bumps on the road, but the 2 rears are fine, no problem.

this doesnt seem normal because of the fact that i bought these shocks brand new. the old stock suspension on the car was still good no clunks or anything but now that i have new ones up front i keep getting loud clunks on every little bump on the road.:x

have they bottomed out already??:(

i appreciate any input and tip. thanks!

oh and the shocks are KYB-GR2:p

Did it come with bump stops? Or did you use the Oem ones? Take a look at the top hats, many people assemble them wrong and the strut comes through the top. Hell, I did it on my rears, took 5 seconds for me to say, OH SHIT. LOL. Its a bitch when you have to take it all off and redo it.

Also what springs are you on?

oh shit lol, man i think i did assemble the top hats wrong dude. I did not reuse the old hat assembly since i had new ones ordered and i guess i got to excited and installed the new ones without thinking.

now that i'm looking at the old front shock assembly, i find that it has "extra parts" parts i didnt install on the new setup ( bushing and metal dowel specifically) hopefully once i take the shocks out ( a sweaty laborous pain in the ass) and put these parts back in i'm praying the clunks and thumps will go away.

but really my main concern is i hope i didnt bottomed out my new front shocks :(

oh and springs are GC

Thats it! Those metal pieces keep the strut from coming though.

It shouldn't. You have quality suspension. There is no reason it should be doing that if it assembled correctly. When you dropped it even lower, you lowered by dropping down the threaded mount at the bottom of the strut right? Lowering it more by dropping the preload perches on the threaded collar will reduce travel a lot and cause bottoming out.

Also keep in mind that going too low isvery possible and very easy to do. There is a happy medium. Any sort of bottoming out is very bad. It pounds the struts and other supsension components. It also makes it handle worse. Bottoming out mid corner will send the spring rate infinitely stiff and will result in erradic handling at best and usually severe understeer.

He said he left out the metal washer that keeps the strut from pushing right through the bushings.

I Got It Fixed!!!

SO........after a pain in the asscheeks of pulling the front assemblies out, it did INDEED turn out to be a misassemble of the top hats ordeal!!!!

after putting all the required missing pieces into the hats, it was another pain in the asscheeks to get them reinstalled.

the 67 degree summer weather up here didnt help much since that was hot and made me sweat up a gatorade.

as they were finally all set in and everything was said and done. i crossed my fingers and took her for a test drive.

and what do ya know???? the clunks/thumps are GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOTTTT

big thanks to SPEEDIN for the advice, i wouldnt have figured it out if he hadnt mention the hat assembly. and BIG THANKS to everyone here with the tips and tidbit.

GREATLY APPRECIATED CLUBINTEGRA!!!!!!! :D

i think your missing a stopper or something.....maybe the big washer before the strut tower that limits the shock from bottoming up in the sturt/shock tower.....maybe?
