Buying 94 LS...Lots of rust...

Ok, I am new here, and possibly a new member of the Integra club...but I am looking to buy a 94 integra for 1850. Its all stock, only has 113k...Got it checked out by my mechanic, says the cv boot needs to be replaced---so axle will be new, clutch will go in the future, (supposedly)...something with the transmission he says (grinds into 3rd somtimes?)...other than that th engine is beautiful, and the car runs smooth...only issue is that there is a lot of rust...the rear quarter panel, passenger side, has had a shitty bondo job, and has a good chunk of rust...a tiny paint chip/rust on the other side...

The metal that runs up the windsheild between the passenger side window and windsheild...(dont know what its called) also has some surface rust that surprises me...So anyway, I have my elders telling me that its stupid to put money in a car like this, even though I will have some extra money since I sold my shitty eclispe for 3800. I am looking to get a new paint job and obviously get that rust down to the bone...my ex-step father who is wise old gentleman hasn't seen the car, but soon will in the next few hours, thinks its a very stupid move, and that puting money obviously in such a low priced vehicle would be down right retarded...

update...just talked with him, he siad it would be alright if I have a job which I will be upon returning to the states. i am going to europe for about 3 weeks and will be back, the be on the job hunt. BTW I just graduated college. Anyway, I know all you guys love integras, and I love em too. I know this is a project, and the rust def. isn't nice, but i have bene looking for tegs for quite some time and i can't find shit in the East coast that is in my price range, or not automatic...or not already riced/messed up...anyway. Any cents would be appreciated...thank you for taking your time out to read this.

PEACE

I say you hold off for a better car, just my opinion. Rust removal is going to cost a fortune on top of all th body work, not to mention the tranny....

i sold my car a few weeks ago, but been looking for integras/civics for the past 3-4 weeks on craigslist...cant find shit...

I was thinking of financing a car, yet I only have 3800 right now, and when I get back I need a job and a car...can't get the job before the car...

I mean even if I pay to get that rust to the bone, and a good paint job, u dont think tha tshit will look nice for atleast 2 yrs??

when i say lots of rust, I dont mean rust all over, but the rear quarter panel had a good patch that had some shitty work done on it, and minor surface rust on the windhsield area...just bubbling up a bit...

ahh, as u can tell I do not want to turn it down, my mechanic said its pretty solid, its just the rust...

dont all cars eventually rust?

Assuming you still have all $3800 left from your sell, the cost of the car will leave you with 1950, Half of that covers the cheapest of paint jobs( not including rust removal), then you have taxes, title, registration. He wouldn't have mentioned the clutch if he didn't think you would notice it right off, it's probably worse than you think, That'll probably cost $800 bucks or so( not to mention paying for the car, starting a new job and now you can't start bacause your ride is in the tranny shop, or at your buddies body shop, put on the back burner, to make way for all his good paying customers. I say in your position, you need to get something that can be driven with no problems, and save for the one you want.

Sorry to sound like a bubble bursting hard ass, but I've been there more than once!

Not too many cars rust on the West Coast.

looks like a nice car, but im from mass...

I feel you man. My mechanic who is trustworthy told me the car runs solid...cv boot needs fixing, and supposedly he felt it grind in 3rd...he said it was some ring thing that needs replacing, but its not that big, and I could drive on it for a while...Most east coast cars/ hondas, rust like the dickens...its got a decent amount, but most cars do...

I have been looking...I am leaving in the next 2 weeks most likely...

When i get back I gotta find a job and a car...and at the point, i know I wont have time to pick and choose, I will be pressured to buy something I am not gonna enjoy driving, that is why I am eager to get this teg, cause there are NOOO decent tegs around here, within my price margins...I would have 1800, but I dont think I would be spending that much...

I do have a friend who owns a body shop and he will give me a deal, and i know it will be dipping in my pockets, but I do want a teg...either that or i gotta buy a fugly civic...

shit is tough...
