yeah the b16 is a lot different. the deck height is much shorter, thats why they have such a small stroke on the crank

thanks for the responses guys. and thanks to your thread jack (no anger here hehehe) i have a new question:

what if just got a block, lets say a b20. displacement right? and brought it to the machine shop, got it sleeved, got pistons, rods, etc. now lets say that considering that will be built, how about i just put my gsr head on that and run b20/vtec. under boost, will this built bottom end handle 8k rpms? i'm really considering this route right now.

You don't want to get a b20 block if your going to sleeve it, the cylinder walls are made different and a lot of shops will charge more to sleeve. A stock ls bottom end with some pistons will hold together at 8k fine. I think this is the worst of all your ideas yet.

wow i didnt know the deck height was diff. wow.

so does the B16 have the same little diffrences?
Deck height is a little different. Both rotating assemblys can still be interchanged without any issues.

B18c/b16b deck height -- 212.39
B18a/b deck height--------211.84

the deck height in a b16a or a2 is a lot different though. you cant just swap gsr or ls rotating assemblies into them. they need modification or custom rods.

sorry. :( at least i'm willing to learn and listen to what you all have to say about my ideas. under what premises would i have to sleeve a block then?

so based on what you all have said and taught me (thanks!) i think i'll do an ls bottom end w/ pistons/rods and slap my head on there. any suggestions on what i should do with the head? valvetrain wise...

once again, i REALLY appreciate the help and responses guys. thanks thanks thanks to all of you.

No nead to be sorry I just don't see the point of building a motor that's not as good as the one you have. You have a gsr motor, build it, if you don't want downtime do what someone said earlier and just get a junkyard ls and throw in while you build the gsr.

To me it just seems to make more sense to build the better of the two motors. Even if you build the ls, it's still an ls and the gsr is still a better motor.

ok. well i've come to this conclusion then. i'll compression/leakdown test my motor, and just start buying everything i need. i'll just boost this. shouldnt be that bad bumming my mom's car for a couple of days while its installed/tuned here is my proposed setup:

spoolin performance log OR ramhorn
gt28rs disco potato yay (will figure specs later..)
tial 44mm or synapse wastegate
synapse synchronic bov
precision intercooler
spoolin piping kit
treadstone oil lines
deciding on fuel pump...
s300

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP AGAIN GUYS!! i appreciate it a lot.

just wondering... anybody seen somebody with a 300whp jrsc setup?
