Hi everyone.

I bought a 1990 Integra for $1,000 in April/June, and I really like it. It has a Prelude bonnet, the door cards are falling to pieces, and its headlights are wonky but it's still mechanically very sound and it works a dream.

Now I'm interested in getting a ... newer, faster, and generally nicer Integra. I suggested this to a friend who is a Subaru nut (and highly opinionated, whether opinions are based on fact or on one person's personal experience) and she mentioned a mate of a mate who was sliced in half in a fender-bender gone wrong with something in his DC2, at apparently 'low speed'.

So, in the interest of getting more than one opinion, and certainly more educated opinions, I was wondering if Integras (whether NA, V-tec or Type Rs) of particular years have certain weaknesses about their frames and behave in certain ways in particular impacts.

It's either a toss-up between a mid-to-late 1990s Integra (not the double bubble 'facelift' model) or a Silvia - one of the ones with the flip-up lights (they so sexy :D). So I would like educated opinions on the structural defects and structural strengths of Integras, if someone is willing.

the second generation integra was sold 1990-1993 and has the long headlights. This would be the DA/DB1,BB2 style
The third generation was sold from 1994+ and has the dual circle headlights. This would be the DC2 style.

I have personally been in 2 wrecks in a 2nd Generation integra. Both times my car was the only one that drove away. The 3 other cars involved were totaled (2 the first one, and 1 the second time) I was rear ended both times. They were a week apart, so i didn't have time to get it fixed yet.

I don't care what car you are in if you wrap it around a telephone pole sideways it ain't going to be pretty. Keep us up to date on what you find out. I am curious.

yea, i can't imagine a g3 or g2 ripping in half from a car accident, unless the car hits a pole at very fast speeds or something.

I thought it was a bit rich. "Quite slow" for her probably means 100kph+. She has also tried talking me out of RWD cars despite the fact that I've been driving around a 300ZX TT, and an NA 300ZX before that (partner's cars, bloody flatmate wrote off the NA 300ZX).

Well i happen to be very opinionated myself...big time subi and Nissan fan, BUT Honda builds a good car. i found that u cant judge a car as bad based on freak accident stories, which have probably been exaggerated every time they are told. btw were are u from..u type with an accent.

i feel that my integra saved my life, i lost control at 80+ (130 kph i believe) left 177 feet of skid and slamed head on into a jersey barrier. my dunkin donuts coffee was still in the cupholder and i was drinking it sitting perfectly untouched outside the car after the accident

You can never judge a car off a one-off impression, because it could be that that particular car had a particular fault that allowed it to crash in a particular way, or that it was hit at the exact speed, angle, and position that would cause the car to react the way it did... etc. etc. No two crashes are ever the same. It just irritates me that this friend judges an entire line of car based on 'a mate's mate' which has without a doubt been warped through continuous telling.

I must admit, I love Nissans, and if I could pick a car to get it would be another TT 300ZX. Unfortunately, not only do they go through 3 times as much gas as my little putput (which I don't like), they'll also cost thousands to insure, and only ONE insurance company in the whole of New Zealand will insure it, and they're a bunch of anally retentive prats who will fight paying even a cent to the very end.

So I'm looking at Integras. They're nice, they're reliable (enough), they're easy to insure, they don't guzzle gas like nothing on earth, and if I get a half way decent one, I'll actually enjoy driving it.

I'm from New Zealand, which is why I type with such a weird accent. We have a love affair with the 'ou' and the 's', while American english has a love affair with the 'o' and the 'z'.

It's good to get a more positive outlook on Integras.

Correction, DB wasn't just in 90-93...

My 1995 4dr GSR = DB8

I am so confused with the DB/DC, etc. I've never had it explained to me and I can't find any reasonable 'blonde's guide' explaining the differences in appearance and guts.

Thats the worst front Ive ever seen on a civic, the acura EL was at least nice looking.

DB/DC is a chassis code reference. DC= 2 door DB= 4 door. Then you can get into the number after the DC/DB, but thats a short explination.

I honestly didnt know you could type with an accent.
