so is that like a real computer? what os are you using? and where is the rest of the machine?
yes, it is a real desk top computer.
I am using windows xp pro with frodoplayer front end.

It is sort of a prototype.
I recently upgraded my home Desktop computer. I bought a new mother board, CPU, ram , power supply, case, hard drive, CD-RW drive.

So for a while I just had an extra computer sitting around minus monitor, and a keyboard.

My brother and I had been talking and brainstorming about putting a computer in our tegs, for data logging and tuning. (He has a 300 hp turbo monster) I have wanted (and had ideas), since I was about 17 (about 6 years ago), to put a computer in my car as an entertainment center.
I told my brother to let me do some research and do kind of a prototype in my car. Once I got it all figured out in my car, we would tackle his. Ironically I came into some extra money right then.
So I went onto ebay and ordered a 8” touch screen monitor and a M2-ATX automotive computer power supply. Then I went to Newegg and bought a mini keyboard, a 250G hard drive. Next I went to my local automotive store and bought some fiberglass resin and some body filler.
This is what I came up with.

It is just an old HP that I had laying around. The low power consumption of it is key.
But once I get all the kinks worked out, and money is a little better I will start upgrading. A new motherboard, CPU, RAM... etc. But first, as soon as i get $70 extra I will buy a slot load dvd rom and mount it directly under the screen, above the climate controls.
I am working on picking the parts for my brothers system now. I am glad we did it this way. I feel now i have a much better idea of what we are looking for in his system.

This is before it was finished.(well... its still not finished lol) I was just mocking it basically. I couldn't decided if i wanted the monitor how it is now or how it is in this pic. To keep it from glare from the sun I tried to create a more vertical angle and closer to my hand when it is on the shifter. But I think I don't like how it sticks out so much, and looks out of place. And the finish didn't turn out like i wanted at all! I was going to redo it with a wrinkle finish. So, I plan to redo the monitor, but I will have to wait til it is not so freakin cold.

The next motherboard I get will be much smaller and fit better. So there was no sense in making this fit perfect.
