The klr is a pig, it's more centered on adventure/offroad riding, the crf is more like a Dakar bike.

How is the KLR a pig, it's like 100lbs lighter! The CRF will be the same type of bike only more similar to the KTM and BMW adventures that are heavier and have twins with more power.

I haven't ridden a new klr but I don't think they've changed much. They weren't bad in the 90s; not made for jumping like a dirt bike, but I've climbed up some pretty rough trails on them. I think they do what those types of bikes are made to do very well. None of those bikes, including that Honda is going to be light enough to ride like a 450.

It does depend on the riding style, I think everyone by this point knows I don't cruise.

For me, a pig like the klr, though fun for just hitting the trails on the weekend would hold me back, it's old tech, the honda has a modern frame, suspension and knowing honda, torque. I like riding fast and precise, it exercises the brain.

I guess, you can only ride so fast off road. That's the problem with these dual purpose bikes. Originally it was an off road bike that "could" be driven on the roads. Now it's a street bike that "might" be able to handle some off road.

It's like the damn SUV. Originally it was meant to be good off road and drivable on road. Now it's good on road and might just get you up a gravel path.

So basically what I'm saying is, all these new "dual-sport" bikes are f***ing up the original intention.

It seems you've already made that mistake

That one's worth a solid 3500, and that's not an insult.

You can buy one of the rare 05-06 black sp2's with ~10k or less for $5500, if you can find one.

It's the ones that have the abused ones that want the most.

I've seen two 05's and one mint Nicky Hayden edition for no more than 6k. Both of the black sp2's were 5500, price negotiable, less than 10k miles and maybe one scratch on the fairing from a rock being kicked up or a big bug hitting it.

Much like the one a guy on the RC forums found halfway across the country, had it shipped for nearly 1k less than he could find one locally...
